Identify the exact model

Recovery procedures vary between electric vehicles. The make, model, year and drivetrain matter, so provide the registration and exact model rather than only saying 'electric car'.

Manufacturer instructions take priority over generic advice.

Separate the 12-volt and traction battery issues

An EV with plenty of driving range can still fail to wake up because its 12-volt system is discharged. Conversely, a depleted traction battery may leave the electronic controls working but the vehicle unable to drive.

Describe dashboard behaviour and indicated charge.

Neutral and parking brake

Many EVs use electronic selectors and parking brakes. Loss of power can prevent normal release. Do not drag the vehicle or force controls.

Tell the operator whether transport mode or neutral is available.

Charging cable and location

If the vehicle is connected, confirm whether the cable can be released and who controls the charger. Never damage a charging point to free the car.
