Planned movement of vehicles that do not drive

Non-Runner Vehicle Transport

Collection and delivery for non-running cars, projects, repair vehicles and vehicles awaiting diagnosis.

A non-runner can often be transported safely, but 'does not start' is only part of the condition report. AtWheel needs to know whether the vehicle rolls, steers, brakes and can be placed in neutral, as well as whether the tyres are inflated and the keys are present.

This service is useful for project cars, vehicles bought as seen, failed-MOT vehicles, garage transfers and cars that have been stored. Planning the loading conditions in advance reduces delays at collection and helps protect the vehicle from avoidable damage.

When this service is useful

  • Project and restoration vehicles
  • Failed-MOT vehicles that should not be driven
  • Cars awaiting engine, gearbox or electrical repair
  • Long-stored vehicles subject to wheel and brake condition
  • Private-sale, auction and garage non-runners

A useful non-runner condition report

Confirm whether each tyre is inflated, whether the wheels rotate and whether the steering unlocks. Long-stored vehicles may have seized brakes or degraded tyres even when they were parked in working order.

Keys are important because steering locks, electronic handbrakes and transmission selectors may otherwise remain engaged. Tell us before booking if keys are missing or the battery is completely disconnected.

Access around the vehicle matters. A non-runner stored nose-first in a garage or tightly between other vehicles may need a different plan from one positioned on an open driveway.

Non-Runner Transport questions

These answers are general. The live vehicle, position and access still need to be checked.

Can you move a car with no engine?

Potentially, provided its weight, balance, rolling condition and access are suitable and accurately described.

What if the brakes are seized?

Send photographs and explain how long the vehicle has been stored. Additional equipment or preparation may be required.

Can you collect from a garage?

Yes, with the garage's opening hours, contact details and release authority.

Do I need the V5C to transport it?

Transport authority and collection release are required. Ownership and DVLA documentation remain the responsibility of the parties involved.
