Preparing a Motorcycle for Recovery or Transport
Condition, luggage, access and securing information to provide for a bike movement.
Give the full motorcycle details
Provide make, model, approximate weight and photographs. Touring bikes, scooters and lightweight motorcycles have different handling and securing needs.
Mention modifications, lowered suspension and wide luggage.
Check rolling and steering
Confirm that both wheels rotate, the steering is free and the machine can be held upright. Flat tyres, accident damage and locked steering must be declared.
Do not remove damaged parts unless it is safe and agreed.
Secure or remove luggage
Take valuables out and secure panniers, top boxes and loose accessories. Identify any items expected to travel with the bike.
Fuel or oil leaks must be disclosed.
Describe access
A bike in a normal driveway differs from one behind steps, down a narrow passage or inside a building. Photograph the route to the loading point.
Confirm gates and surface conditions.
Arrange handover
Have keys and documents ready and ensure the receiving person can accept the motorcycle. Record the condition at collection.
Useful checklist
