Locating a vehicle on the A32
The A32 runs through varied town and rural settings. Give the actual section, direction and nearby safely identifiable point. If the vehicle is at a farm, workshop or property off the road, supply the entrance details and surface conditions too.
Tell us whether police or traffic officers are involved and follow their instructions. Do not walk along the carriageway or cross traffic to read a sign. A map pin can help when it can be shared from a safe place, but say if the position is uncertain.
If you cannot get the vehicle to a place of relative safety and cannot exit safely, stay belted in, keep hazards on and call 999 for the police. Follow official instructions. Read the Highway Code for the full guidance.
What to tell AtWheel
Give the registration, make, model and what happened. Explain whether the vehicle rolls, steers and has keys. Damage, fluid leaks, a trailer or a heavy load may change the equipment needed. Mention passengers and any mobility requirements so the arrangements can be discussed.
A private recovery booking does not authorise work in an unsafe traffic position. Access and attendance depend on the scene, suitable equipment and any road-authority instructions.
Agreeing an onward destination
For this part of Hampshire, our Fareham recovery guide and Alton recovery guide may help with local collection and delivery questions. The destination still needs a full address and a person or garage able to accept the vehicle.
Choose a home, repairer or another suitable destination and confirm access before booking. Ask separately about passengers, key handover and delivery outside normal opening hours.
Recovery pricing and availability
The standard AtWheel recovery call-out is £100. Mileage and job extras are quoted separately. Give the actual route and vehicle condition so the complete job can be checked before a price is agreed.
Call for current availability. A website cannot promise a response time or assess traffic conditions for a live incident. For the practical safety steps, see our motorway breakdown guide.
Fareham, the Meon Valley or the Alton end
For an A32 breakdown, give the part of the route and nearest safely identifiable junction, property or town. Explain the direction where relevant and the vehicle’s present position. An urban approach, rural stretch and premises off the route need different access descriptions. The road number alone cannot establish where a recovery vehicle should attend.
If you have reached a garage, car park or private property, use that address and entrance rather than the place where the fault started. Do not move an unsafe car farther for the sake of a simpler location. Follow official guidance when traffic creates danger and use signs or a map pin only where safely available. Tell the operator when a detail is uncertain.
Rural gateways and a car off the road
A vehicle at a farm, workshop or property needs the named entrance and final approach. Mention a narrow lane, sharp turn, low branches, gradient or unsuitable ground. A postal address may not identify the gate that reaches the car. Ask the responsible person about access and permission before treating private land as available for loading or vehicle movement.
Do not assume a wide verge or field entrance is a suitable alternative collection point. Explain where the car actually stands, including any obstruction. Arrange for owners to deal with unrelated vehicles that block access where possible, but avoid dragging or towing the broken-down vehicle out as preparation. The operator needs to assess the existing situation and any safely supplied photographs.
A project car at a workshop or rural home
For a planned A32-area collection, obtain a current condition description. Starting, driving, rolling and steering are separate facts. A car stored for a long time may have seized brakes, flat tyres or missing keys even if it moved normally when parked. Report removed parts, low clearance and damage. Do not turn an old advert or recollection into a claim about present loading condition.
List components or extra items intended to travel and confirm the recipient expects them. A car transport quotation should not be assumed to include unrelated goods or another collection stop. Arrange the seller’s or workshop’s release requirements independently and identify a keyholder. An authorised person should be available to hand over the correct vehicle and explain any change since the original enquiry.
An unexpected breakdown and a receiving plan
Describe warnings, symptoms or damage that interrupted the journey. If the car will not restart at premises, explain the engine and dashboard response and help already attempted. Suitable jump-start assistance may be discussed where appropriate, but a battery fault is not certain from a non-start alone. Do not attempt roadside repairs where the position exposes you to traffic.
Agree where the car can be received before booking recovery. A repairer should confirm acceptance of its condition, an unloading entrance and hours. A home needs space for a non-runner to remain. Discuss passengers, a trailer or other requirements expressly. A quotation to one garage is not automatically a price for a later transfer or a different destination chosen after collection.
Full price, availability and changes
AtWheel’s standard recovery call-out is £100, with mileage and job extras separately quoted. Planned transport is individually priced. Give the precise collection point, full destination, exact vehicle and handling details for the complete amount. Explain fixed seller or site windows rather than only a preferred date. Availability should be confirmed for the particular job, not inferred from proximity to Fareham or Alton.
Update AtWheel if the vehicle moves, keys are delayed, access changes or the recipient becomes unavailable. Follow official instructions at a road incident and communicate any authorised relocation. A new yard may introduce release hours or different loading conditions. The quotation and collection plan should be reviewed when the actual requirements differ from the original description, keeping the booking tied to the job that now needs doing.
What information helps with a classic-car movement?
Give the exact model, modifications, ground clearance and present running and loading condition. Explain fragile or loose components, keys and any long period in storage. Ask the recipient about unloading space and receiving hours. Avoid assuming the car still rolls as it did when parked. For an A32-area collection, describe the property approach too; a detailed vehicle description is only part of planning a movement from a narrow or rural entrance.
