Locating a vehicle on the A337

An A337 recovery enquiry should identify the actual section and nearby town. Through-forest locations and town streets can have different access constraints. If the vehicle has reached a car park or property, give that address rather than the place where the fault first appeared.

Tell us whether police or traffic officers are involved and follow their instructions. Do not walk along the carriageway or cross traffic to read a sign. A map pin can help when it can be shared from a safe place, but say if the position is uncertain.

In a live lane or unable to get to safety?

If you cannot get the vehicle to a place of relative safety and cannot exit safely, stay belted in, keep hazards on and call 999 for the police. Follow official instructions. Read the Highway Code for the full guidance.

What to tell AtWheel

Give the registration, make, model and what happened. Explain whether the vehicle rolls, steers and has keys. Damage, fluid leaks, a trailer or a heavy load may change the equipment needed. Mention passengers and any mobility requirements so the arrangements can be discussed.

A private recovery booking does not authorise work in an unsafe traffic position. Access and attendance depend on the scene, suitable equipment and any road-authority instructions.

Agreeing an onward destination

For this part of Hampshire, our Brockenhurst recovery guide and Lymington recovery guide may help with local collection and delivery questions. The destination still needs a full address and a person or garage able to accept the vehicle.

Choose a home, repairer or another suitable destination and confirm access before booking. Ask separately about passengers, key handover and delivery outside normal opening hours.

Recovery pricing and availability

The standard AtWheel recovery call-out is £100. Mileage and job extras are quoted separately. Give the actual route and vehicle condition so the complete job can be checked before a price is agreed.

Call for current availability. A website cannot promise a response time or assess traffic conditions for a live incident. For the practical safety steps, see our motorway breakdown guide.

Identify the town or through-forest section

For an A337 enquiry, state whether the vehicle is around Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Lymington, New Milton or another clearly identified part of the route. Give the current position and direction where relevant. A town street, a through-forest section and a parking site have different access conditions. The road number alone is not enough to assess the approach to the car.

If the vehicle reached premises after developing a fault, use that actual address and entrance. Do not continue to describe it as on the main road. Use signs or a map pin only where safely available, and state any uncertainty. Follow official guidance where traffic creates danger; do not drive farther with an unsafe fault simply to reach a location that seems easier to describe.

Visitor sites and holiday accommodation

At a hotel, campsite or visitor car park, give the site name and vehicle entrance. Mention a gate, height barrier, narrow turn or closing time. Ask the site contact which route a transporter should use and whether permission is required. Access suitable for guests arriving in cars may not provide suitable space for loading a non-runner.

Describe the ground under the vehicle and whether it is in an ordinary parking bay or on grass, a verge or another surface. Avoid an improvised tow to move it across the site. Obtain permission before suggesting private space for loading and report any obstacles. Safe photographs can help the operator understand the layout without requiring a risky preliminary move or inspection.

If the breakdown affects a ferry trip, distinguish the current vehicle location from the intended terminal. Give the terminal or parking site only if the car is actually there, including the side of any barrier. Confirm site release and access requirements directly with the responsible operator. A reference to a sailing does not identify the physical collection point.

Tell AtWheel about the timing requirement, but do not assume a ferry crossing or restricted-site attendance is included in a general Hampshire quotation. The movement needs its full route and permissions assessed. If the car will instead go to a mainland garage or home, obtain acceptance there and describe its unloading access. Keep the chosen destination clear as travel plans change.

Non-starts and vehicles unable to continue

Describe what happened and any warning, impact or unusual symptom. For a non-start at premises, explain the engine and dashboard response and mention help already attempted. A flat battery may be one cause, but the enquiry should not treat it as certain. Give the exact model and power type so suitable assistance can be discussed on the correct vehicle information.

For recovery, report whether wheels roll, steering operates and keys are present. Mention a locked brake, damage, low clearance, trailer or load. Those facts affect handling independently of the original fault. Do not attempt a repair beside traffic or force an unfamiliar control to change the car’s state. Describe known limitations and leave unchecked details clearly identified as unknown.

Confirm the recipient, full price and any changes

A garage or private recipient should confirm it can accept the vehicle in its present condition. Agree an unloading entrance, receiving time and key handover. Discuss passenger travel and additional items separately. AtWheel’s standard recovery call-out is £100, with mileage and job extras quoted separately; planned transport receives an individual price based on the route and handling requirements.

Ask for the complete amount and current availability before accepting a booking. Report a changed destination, moved vehicle, missing key or new site restriction promptly. If officials manage a road incident, follow their instructions and tell the operator about arrangements affecting collection. A quotation based on one parking site or route needs reviewing when the actual collection or onward movement changes materially.

What if my accommodation cannot keep a non-runner?

Do not choose it as the recovery destination until acceptance and suitable space are confirmed. Contact a repairer or discuss another appropriate recipient, giving the vehicle’s current condition. Passenger travel may need a separate arrangement as well. A booking should identify where the car can actually be unloaded and left. An A337 holiday breakdown can change travel plans, but a provisional destination should not be treated as permission from the accommodation provider.
