Locating a vehicle on the A35

For an A35 enquiry, say which part of the route you are on and whether the vehicle is in a lay-by, at premises or exposed to traffic. A New Forest location needs more detail than the road number alone, especially where access is from another lane.

Tell us whether police or traffic officers are involved and follow their instructions. Do not walk along the carriageway or cross traffic to read a sign. A map pin can help when it can be shared from a safe place, but say if the position is uncertain.

In a live lane or unable to get to safety?

If you cannot get the vehicle to a place of relative safety and cannot exit safely, stay belted in, keep hazards on and call 999 for the police. Follow official instructions. Read the Highway Code for the full guidance.

What to tell AtWheel

Give the registration, make, model and what happened. Explain whether the vehicle rolls, steers and has keys. Damage, fluid leaks, a trailer or a heavy load may change the equipment needed. Mention passengers and any mobility requirements so the arrangements can be discussed.

A private recovery booking does not authorise work in an unsafe traffic position. Access and attendance depend on the scene, suitable equipment and any road-authority instructions.

Agreeing an onward destination

For this part of Hampshire, our Totton recovery guide and Lyndhurst recovery guide may help with local collection and delivery questions. The destination still needs a full address and a person or garage able to accept the vehicle.

Choose a home, repairer or another suitable destination and confirm access before booking. Ask separately about passengers, key handover and delivery outside normal opening hours.

Recovery pricing and availability

The standard AtWheel recovery call-out is £100. Mileage and job extras are quoted separately. Give the actual route and vehicle condition so the complete job can be checked before a price is agreed.

Call for current availability. A website cannot promise a response time or assess traffic conditions for a live incident. For the practical safety steps, see our motorway breakdown guide.

Pinpointing a stop through the New Forest

An A35 recovery enquiry needs the section, direction and actual position, not only the road number. State the nearest safely identifiable town, junction or premises and explain whether the vehicle remains on the main road or has reached another site. A reference to Totton or Lyndhurst helps narrow the area, but it does not describe the entrance or safe approach to the car.

If the fault began elsewhere, keep that history separate from where the vehicle is now. Use a map pin only when it can be shared safely and say if the position is uncertain. Follow official guidance where traffic creates danger. Do not walk along the road to read a sign or move an unsafe vehicle farther just to provide a simpler address.

A lay-by, forest parking or private premises

Describe the stopping place accurately, including any gate, barrier, restricted entrance or soft surface. A car in a marked parking area presents a different access situation from one on a verge. Give the name of a visitor site or business and ask the responsible person which entrance should be used. A route suitable for a passenger car may not be appropriate for recovery equipment.

Do not improvise a collection point across grass or private land. Permission and ground conditions need to be considered before such space is treated as available. Tell AtWheel about the car’s present position and any obstacle. Photographs can help show the layout if they can be taken safely, but there is no need to approach traffic or move the vehicle to obtain them.

Holiday travel and a suitable destination

A breakdown during a visit can leave the car, passengers and luggage needing different arrangements. Confirm where the vehicle can be received first. A hotel or holiday site may not accept a non-runner, and a local garage may need a receiving appointment. For recovery home, give the full address and explain the unloading space so the longer route can be assessed.

Discuss passenger travel separately and explain any mobility need. Tell AtWheel about a trailer or extra equipment; a quotation for one car does not automatically include additional units or goods. A departure deadline is relevant but does not itself confirm availability. If the destination remains undecided, say so before treating a provisional local address as an agreed receiving point.

Symptoms and the vehicle’s loading state

Describe warnings, noises or damage that preceded the stop without claiming a diagnosis you do not have. If the car will not restart at premises, explain whether the engine turns and what the dashboard shows. Mention any assistance already attempted and identify the exact model, including electric or hybrid power. Suitable help depends on both the vehicle and its safe position.

For transport, state whether all wheels roll, steering works and keys are available. Report a brake that remains applied, low clearance or damaged suspension. A loaded van needs its load described too. Do not attempt repairs beside traffic or force a release procedure to make the car seem ready. Known limitations and clearly stated uncertainties support a more realistic equipment and handling assessment.

A complete quotation for the A35 movement

The standard recovery call-out is £100, with mileage and job extras separately quoted. Give the precise collection point, agreed destination, vehicle and access conditions for the complete amount. Planned transport receives its own quotation. A website cannot assess live road conditions or promise an arrival time, so current availability and suitable access need to be confirmed for the particular job.

Keep the booking contact available and update any changed condition, key arrangement or destination. If an authorised service moves the vehicle, provide the new site and its release details. Follow official instructions at the scene and tell AtWheel when they affect collection. A quotation based on one route or accessible parking position should be reviewed when the actual movement or handling requirements change.

What if the vehicle is on grass at a visitor site?

Say so before collection is agreed and describe the present surface, slope and access. Ask the site about permission and any suitable vehicle route. Do not tow the car across the ground yourself or describe it as an ordinary hardstanding collection. Ground conditions and the position need assessment. A recovery enquiry near the A35 should identify the real site conditions, even when the entrance is only a short distance from the main road.

Let’s get your vehicle sorted.

Tell us where you are, what has happened and where the vehicle needs to go.
