A vehicle move that fits the purchase
A private sale can be agreed quickly, while the practical collection needs another conversation. The seller may need the car gone before a move, the buyer may be at work, or the vehicle may already be booked into a specialist. Tell AtWheel which part of the arrangement is fixed and which can be flexible. We can then check transport availability against a real collection plan instead of a date that only one person has agreed.
For a Bishop's Waltham collection, start with the address where the vehicle is standing. A seller's contact address, the place it was advertised and its storage address can be different. Include the registration and make and model so everyone is discussing the same car. Where somebody else is arranging the movement for you, give them the condition and access details as well as the two postcodes.
What the transport quote covers
AtWheel charges transport mileage at £3 per mile for the route from PO13 8DG to the collection and then to the delivery. The journey to reach the seller forms part of that calculation. A move from one Bishop's Waltham address to another should therefore not be estimated simply by multiplying the short distance between those properties. Supply both addresses so the whole agreed route can be considered.
The mileage basis does not automatically include a return leg after delivery. Any job extras, including requirements arising from the vehicle or access, are discussed separately for the actual movement. We do not apply the £100 recovery call-out to a planned transport job just because the car does not run. Recovery and transport have different charging arrangements, and your quotation should make clear which service has been agreed.
Start through the transport quote form, or call if the job needs explaining. An enquiry or calculated figure still needs the vehicle, access and availability checks before booking. Tell us if you have only an approximate address at first, then obtain the proper location before treating the price as settled. Moving the collection to a different property can change both the mileage and how the car can be loaded.
Make the seller's handover easy to complete
Ask the seller who will actually be present to release the vehicle. That person should know which car is leaving, where the keys are and that you have arranged AtWheel to collect it. Resolve payment and sale documentation directly with the seller before release. Transport provides the agreed movement; it does not replace a purchase inspection or settle a disagreement about the condition described in the advert.
If the car is behind another vehicle, arrange for that obstruction to be moved before collection. Identify the correct driveway when a property has more than one entrance. A number written on the front door may be easy for a pedestrian to find while the vehicle entrance is around the back. Those details make a difference when deciding where equipment can safely approach and load.
Tell the seller which information we need about movement: does the engine start, does the car drive, do the wheels roll and does the steering unlock? These are separate questions. A car can have a running engine but a failed transmission, or a dead battery with otherwise free-moving wheels. Describing its present state is more useful than saying it was driven into place the last time anyone saw it.
Town-centre addresses and an agreed loading place
Basingwell Street and Lower Lane are distinct council car parks in Bishop's Waltham. If the seller or recipient refers to one of them, include its name rather than “the car park near the shops”. A public parking address can identify a location, but it does not automatically authorise loading a transported vehicle there. Tell us about any proposed meeting point so permission and a suitable position can be checked.
For a car stored at a business, establish whether collection is from its customer frontage or another entrance. We need to understand the area around the vehicle, including gates, kerbs, posts and parked cars. Photographs of the approach can help when they can be taken safely. Do not arrange an improvised loading point in the road without discussing whether it is appropriate for the vehicle and equipment.
A home delivery also benefits from advance thought. Where will the car remain after unloading, and can that space be reached in its condition? If it will need another vehicle to pull it around a corner or someone to move several parked cars, explain the issue before the date is agreed. We want the recipient's address to be ready for delivery, rather than simply available as a postcode.
Cars going to a workshop
A planned move to a repairer is often easiest once the workshop has confirmed the vehicle can be accepted. Give it the registration, the fault and whether the car rolls or steers. Ask for the correct receiving entrance and the person responsible for unloading arrangements. It is worth resolving these practical points with the business that will have to move the car again after we leave.
If the repair date changes, update AtWheel before the transport takes place. A vehicle arriving earlier than a garage expects may have nowhere suitable to remain. For a return journey after repairs, book using the car's condition at that time, especially if only some work has been completed. A previous recovery description should not automatically be reused for a later collection that has different handling needs.
Business purchases can involve separate sales, preparation and collection teams. Our dealer collection information explains why release references and the right contact matter. If a vehicle is not yet cleared for collection, tell us. We can discuss the proposed timing without presenting an unconfirmed release as a firm appointment.
Non-runners and vehicles kept in storage
For non-runner transport, be specific about anything preventing the vehicle from moving. Mention a locked steering system, a parking brake that does not release, a flat tyre or missing components. It is fine to say a function has not been checked. Assuming that all four wheels turn because the body looks undamaged can create a loading problem that better information would have revealed.
A stored car may be accompanied by parts, boxes or equipment. List those separately when requesting the quote, particularly anything heavy, loose or difficult to secure. We need to know what is included in the proposed movement. Tools or spare engines should not appear unexpectedly inside a car that was described as empty, and a vehicle quote should not be treated as an agreement to carry an unspecified additional load.
For a low or cherished car, explain modifications and any loading concerns before collection. A splitter, altered suspension or fragile bodywork changes the questions we need to ask. Our classic car transport service gives you somewhere to start with that information. Recent photographs can support the description, but the seller should still confirm any change since the pictures were taken.
Vans and clearance limits
AtWheel can discuss vans up to 3,500kg, with their weight, dimensions and load checked for the intended job. Explain the body type, roof equipment and any conversion. If the van is going from a business in Bishop's Waltham to another site, identify who is approving the movement and who will hand it over. That is especially useful when the regular driver is unavailable.
Our equipment can work with 2.1m clearance where a restricted entrance is involved, subject to the complete access assessment. Height alone does not settle the matter: bends, ramps and the position of the parked vehicle also count. Give the actual collection site's restriction, and do not assume that clearance below 2.1m is suitable. We will discuss the approach before agreeing the job.
One clear set of booking instructions
Choose who can approve changes if several people are involved. The buyer may be paying while the seller supplies access and a garage receives the vehicle. Share the agreed collection details with each of them and keep a reachable contact number for both ends. If someone will be absent, settle key release and authority beforehand. A message saying the keys are “somewhere in the office” is not a dependable handover arrangement.
For nearby starting points, see vehicle transport in Wickham and Botley car collections. If you instead need help with an unexpected breakdown, use Bishop's Waltham recovery. AtWheel is part of SteelMarch Group. Call 07444 400271 with the route and vehicle details, and we can work through what is needed to turn the proposed move into an agreed collection.
