Start with the two people handling the vehicle
For a planned car collection in Chandler's Ford, establish who will release it and who will receive it. These may be the same customer at different addresses, or a seller and buyer who have never met. AtWheel needs a usable contact at each end, together with the registration, make and model. A transport enquiry becomes much easier to arrange when the vehicle and the people responsible for it are identified from the beginning.
Our vehicle transport service covers agreed movements such as purchases, garage transfers and non-runner collections. Explain the purpose of the journey and any firm receiving arrangements. If a seller is only available during a short period, say that when requesting the quote. We can assess the proposed collection without treating an unconfirmed preferred time as a booking.
How the transport mileage is charged
AtWheel charges transport at £3 per mile for the route from PO13 8DG to the collection address and then to the delivery address. That means the journey to collect the vehicle is included in the chargeable route. A move between two addresses in Chandler's Ford is not priced only on the small distance between those properties. The starting leg needs to be considered when comparing the full movement.
For example, a hypothetical route with 20 miles to collection and another 10 miles to delivery contains 30 chargeable miles. At £3 per mile, that gives a £90 mileage amount. This is an illustration of the calculation, not a quoted Chandler's Ford journey. Actual road mileage, vehicle suitability and any job extras must be checked before the total and booking are agreed.
Use the transport quote form with the collection and delivery postcodes, then include the fuller addresses and vehicle condition. Do not substitute your home postcode if the vehicle is currently held at a workshop. The route needs to start its collection leg at the place where the car will actually be released. A postcode estimate also cannot establish whether equipment can reach a particular bay or driveway.
Buying or selling a car from a home address
When buying a vehicle in Chandler's Ford, confirm the sale and the seller's authority to release it before arranging transport. Give AtWheel the seller's name and an agreed contact number, and make sure the seller knows who is collecting. Vehicle transport does not replace a mechanical inspection or settle a disagreement about the purchase. Any questions about the car's history or promised condition should be resolved with the seller.
Ask where the vehicle is parked and whether another vehicle blocks its route out. A property address can cover a front driveway, garage or separate parking court, each with different access. The seller should describe what is available now, including keys and any loose parts. If the car has not been moved recently, an honest “not checked” is more useful than assuming it will start or select neutral on collection day.
For a sale from your own home, make sure the buyer's delivery details are complete before requesting a price. Removing personal belongings and identifying all keys helps keep the handover clear. If accessories or documents are travelling with the vehicle, tell us what has been agreed. Our car transport preparation guide explains the practical details worth settling before collection.
Workshop transfers need a release contact
A garage transfer may involve a car that has been inspected, repaired or partly dismantled. Tell AtWheel which applies. If a wheel, bumper or other part is removed, describe that before a date is agreed, rather than relying on the registration alone. The vehicle in the yard must match the condition used to assess transport. A change after the quote can affect the loading method and the work required.
Confirm that the collecting workshop has authorised release and that any account or storage arrangements have been settled with it. Then speak to the receiving workshop about its own entrance, unloading position and opening arrangements. The two businesses may have different expectations about keys or paperwork. We need a workable agreement at both ends, especially where the vehicle cannot simply be driven into a normal parking space.
Business addresses and restricted premises
For a vehicle at a Chandler's Ford workplace, identify the relevant parking area and the entrance used to reach it. A registered company address or visitor reception may not be the right collection point. Tell us about security checks, vehicle restrictions and a member of staff who can resolve an access question. A loading plan should not depend on someone following another vehicle through a controlled gate.
If the car is associated with an activity at Fryern, Hiltingbury or Pennine Way, specify the particular site. Those are separate parish recreation grounds, and permission from an event organiser may not authorise vehicle loading on the access route. The Hilt's parking notice includes restrictions on the Hiltingbury entry and exit road. Arrange any necessary approval with the site operator and share the agreed working position with AtWheel.
Using the station to meet a seller or return home
Chandlers Ford station is on Station Lane. If you intend to arrive by train to meet a seller, distinguish your passenger meeting point from the vehicle's collection address. A convenient place for two people to meet is not automatically suitable for loading a car. Give AtWheel the actual storage location and discuss any proposed change before it is made.
Similarly, do not plan to leave a vehicle at a station car park for later collection without first agreeing release, keys and parking arrangements. The vehicle may need a person present, and the parking operator's conditions still apply. If you cannot attend the collection, identify an authorised representative. Clear arrangements protect the handover even when the owner is travelling elsewhere during the move.
Transporting a car that does not run
Non-runner transport can be assessed, but describe the limitations carefully. Can the vehicle roll, steer and release its parking brake? Are its tyres inflated, and is a key available? Is the underside damaged or unusually low? Those questions concern safe loading rather than diagnosing the engine. If the seller cannot verify one of them, include that uncertainty in the enquiry so it can be resolved before booking.
For an automatic, hybrid or electric car, provide the exact model and explain any warnings or collision damage. Do not assume the movement method is the same for every vehicle. A charging cable must be properly disconnected before collection; any problem with the charger should be raised with its operator. AtWheel will assess the vehicle described, rather than promise that every non-runner can be collected in the same way.
Vans, dimensions and restricted height
AtWheel can handle vans up to 3,500kg. Give the model, weight details and load information for a planned van move. Include a high roof, specialist conversion or fitted equipment that affects its dimensions. If the load changes between enquiry and collection, tell us. An assessment based on an empty van should not be treated as approval to move the same vehicle with an unspecified payload.
We have equipment suitable for 2.1m clearance, subject to the access route and loading assessment. This does not promise entry below 2.1m or establish suitability from the entrance sign alone. Ramps, turning space and the vehicle's position also matter. Where a height restriction affects collection or delivery, provide the displayed clearance and ask the operator about any necessary authorisation before the movement is confirmed.
Prepare a place where the vehicle can stay
At the delivery address, consider where the car will remain after unloading. If it cannot be driven, it needs a position that does not depend on moving it again immediately. Let AtWheel know about a narrow shared drive, slope or gate, and identify who will take the keys. A postcode and a promise that “someone will be around” are not enough to confirm a handover.
Check access with neighbours or the premises manager where that is necessary, without promising a space you cannot control. If the destination changes, contact us before collection so the mileage and arrangements can be reconsidered. A later return trip from a repairer is a separate movement to organise; it is not automatically included in the outward mileage calculation.
Choose the right location and service
Our pages for vehicle transport in Eastleigh and Romsey car collections may be more relevant when the vehicle is actually held there. The location pages describe coverage, not separate AtWheel depots. Use the real collection address and let us confirm the practical route and availability for your job.
For an unexpected breakdown requiring assistance, use Chandler's Ford car recovery or call 07444 400271. For planned transport, send the registration, condition, addresses and handover contacts together. That gives AtWheel a clear basis for checking the movement and agreeing what is included before the vehicle is booked in.
