Work backwards from a suitable delivery
Before arranging collection, ask where the car can be unloaded and remain. A garage may need a non-runner delivered to a particular entrance, while a home driveway may be shared or have a steep gradient. Give AtWheel those details from the start. A route ending at the correct postcode is only useful if the recipient can accept the vehicle in its actual condition and knows which person will take the keys.
For a repairer, distinguish an appointment for diagnosis from an appointment to receive a transported car. They may not be the same time. Confirm access, space and whether the vehicle can be left if it does not roll or steer. For home delivery, consider a later garage collection if the car cannot be driven. Avoid choosing a position that becomes inaccessible once other vehicles return.
Our vehicle transport service covers Romsey purchases, dealer handovers, workshop transfers and other agreed movements. Tell us the purpose, preferred dates and actual deadline. The useful booking window has to suit both release and receipt, not just the seller's convenience. Provisional details can start an enquiry, but they need confirming before a movement is treated as booked.
Romsey entrances and closely neighbouring car parks
Test Valley distinguishes the council's Broadwater Road car park from the adjacent privately operated Aldi site. For a car held in that area, identify which facility actually contains it and ask the relevant operator about collection. A shop name can be a landmark without describing permission or access. Do not assume the same arrangements apply across adjoining car parks just because they are close together.
Lortemore Place has separately identified Abbey Walk and Latimer Street sides, while Alma Road includes a main parking area and a distinct permit area. Use the full site description, section and any gate information. At Romsey Rapids or another visitor site, confirm the actual loading arrangement rather than inferring it from the availability of ordinary parking or larger bays. A parking space intended for a vehicle and trailer is not a reserved transporter handover point.
Romsey visitor information notes narrow streets and small car parks. Describe the final approach to a home or business, including parked cars, corners and gates. A postcode does not show those conditions. Safe photographs may clarify a tight driveway, but the person controlling the premises should confirm authorised access. Do not move an unroadworthy car into traffic or another car park speculatively to create a supposedly easier collection.
The transport quotation includes the approach to collection
AtWheel's stated rate is £3 per mile for PO13 8DG to collection, followed by collection to delivery. Both legs make up the route. A short move across Romsey is therefore not priced solely from the distance between the customer addresses. Give full physical collection and delivery postcodes, especially where the seller's contact address differs from the property or yard where the vehicle is stored.
Vehicle suitability, loading access and any job extras are assessed alongside mileage. An extra return-to-base leg is not automatically added under this stated arrangement. This is separate from the £100 recovery call-out used for recovery work. Our transport cost guide explains why comparing quotations requires the same condition, access and handover information, not only two matching town names.
Start with our transport quote form and add the vehicle details. A route calculation or enquiry does not itself reserve a time, confirm availability or complete online payment. The practical booking still needs agreement. If the car changes location, the destination changes or loading becomes more difficult, tell us before relying on the original quote for a revised job.
Private purchases and seller preparation
Ask the seller for the actual collection address and who will attend. Confirm keys and relevant paperwork are ready and release has been authorised under your purchase agreement. Complete the buying checks you want directly with them. AtWheel transporting the car does not certify its mechanical condition or replace an inspection. If payment or a disagreement remains unresolved, describe the transport date as provisional rather than expecting the collection to settle the sale.
Get current information about how the car moves. Does it start and drive, roll and steer, and release its parking brake? A claim that it ran when parked may be out of date. Missing keys, flat tyres and seized brakes need reporting. Where the seller has not checked a function, pass that uncertainty on. It is more useful than an optimistic assurance that the vehicle should be easy to load.
Ask the seller to prepare the agreed access. That may involve another person moving a car or opening a locked gate. Do not ask them to push a faulty vehicle onto public road space. Declare additional contents such as spare wheels, panels or heavy parts rather than assuming an ordinary vehicle quote includes a second load of equipment. Our preparation guide helps keep the handover details together.
Dealers and garages releasing a car
For a dealer, obtain the release address, collection contact and any reference required. A showroom address may be different from the preparation or storage site. Confirm payment and readiness requirements are complete before fixing the transport date. Our dealer collection information covers the useful details where sales, accounts and key custody are handled by different people.
When collecting from a workshop, ask how diagnosis or repairs changed the vehicle. Parts may be removed or systems disconnected, affecting rolling, steering or braking. Give AtWheel a current description rather than repeating how the car arrived. List any detached components intended to travel. The receiving repairer should know the same condition so it can plan the vehicle's position after unloading.
Nominate one booking contact able to approve changes. The owner, seller and garage may each have useful information, but the driver needs one consistent set of instructions. Tell us if release or receiving times change before collection starts. An unattended drop outside a closed business should not be assumed acceptable simply because the garage expects to work on the car later.
Non-runners and low-clearance vehicles
Our non-runner transport service assesses movement separately from starting. A car with no engine power can sometimes roll freely, while a running car with a locked wheel may require a different plan. Report damaged tyres, suspension and steering. Identify electric or hybrid vehicles and any known damage or relevant handling instructions. Do not force controls or improvise a tow to make an uncertain car seem ready.
For older, cherished or modified cars, explain the particular requirements in advance. Lowered suspension, splitters and changes of driveway gradient may be relevant even when the road itself is wide. Our classic car transport page helps organise handling notes. Give any special starting or locking procedure and tell us if the vehicle has changed since photographs or a previous quotation were supplied.
Safe images can help explain the car's position and surroundings, but do not reach around unstable damage or crawl underneath to obtain them. Include gates, obstacles and available space where possible. The assessment considers the way from the parking position to the loading point, not just the vehicle in isolation. Accurate condition and access descriptions should accompany the photographs.
Restricted access, vans and additional equipment
For covered or multi-storey collections, AtWheel can work with 2.1m clearance subject to assessing the complete route and job. Give the current displayed limit, level and bay position. Internal beams, ramps, tight turns and the ability to move the car all matter. We do not claim entry below 2.1m or guarantee every site displaying that height is suitable. Arrange operator permission and barrier release where required.
Vans up to 3,500kg can be handled subject to checking dimensions, weight and load. Mention high roofs, conversions, fixed racking, roof equipment and trailers. Tell us what is carried inside. Separate cargo transfer, unloading or storage should be discussed explicitly rather than assumed. A vehicle and trailer parked in a long bay still represent more than one unit for the transport enquiry, and their movement needs its own assessment.
Keeping the handover clear
Have keys, release authority, addresses and contact numbers together before the agreed collection. Explain if the owner will not attend and confirm who can physically open access. At delivery, the receiving person should expect the actual vehicle condition and know where it belongs. If a destination becomes unavailable, contact AtWheel before the car starts its journey so the route and practical arrangement can be checked again.
