Begin with the person releasing the car
A vehicle can be ready to move mechanically but still lack the person, permission or key needed to release it. Before arranging Fordingbridge transport, ask the seller or keeper who will meet the operator and what needs to be settled first. If a car is leaving a workshop, confirm that its release is authorised. AtWheel’s role is the agreed movement, not resolving an outstanding sale or repair dispute.
Give the registration and make and model alongside the two addresses. If the person paying is different from the vehicle keeper, make the relationship and instructions clear. A family member can help with a handover, provided they know which vehicle is leaving and can give access. They should also know who can approve a change if something differs from the description supplied for the quotation.
Full-route transport pricing
The transport mileage rate is £3 per mile for the route from PO13 8DG to collection, then from collection to delivery. For a Fordingbridge job, the journey to reach the car is therefore part of the mileage. A calculation using only the distance between the seller and the buyer leaves out that first section, even if the car is only moving a short distance locally.
There is no automatic return leg after delivery in that route basis. Planned transport does not automatically add the £100 recovery call-out either. Job extras are considered separately where the vehicle or access needs them. Tell us what the movement involves before treating a simple mileage calculation as the complete price, especially for a car which cannot roll or a loading position that is difficult to reach.
Our transport quote form collects the vehicle, route and timing information needed to start. The enquiry still needs availability and suitability checks before a booking is agreed. If you only know the town at first, obtain the actual address from the keeper. We can discuss the proposal, but a postcode or location which later changes may also change the journey and loading assessment.
Town parking and a proposed meeting place
If a seller suggests handing over the vehicle in Fordingbridge town parking, establish the precise site. Round Hill, A338 Slip Road parking and the recreation ground’s sportsground parking are distinct references in council information. The fact that a meeting place is easy for both parties to recognise does not make it an approved loading location for the proposed vehicle movement.
Tell AtWheel whether the car is already there or the seller intends to move it. Check the relevant operator’s permission and describe the available space. A normally occupied parking bay can be suitable for the owner’s car while leaving insufficient room for equipment. Do not promise to reserve an aisle or hold traffic while the car is loaded without discussing an authorised arrangement.
Walking directions around the river and recreation ground should not be passed on as vehicle access. If the car is on private land beside a public path, identify the entrance which the landowner actually permits vehicles to use. A map pin on the vehicle can help explain its position, but it does not establish a route by which transport equipment may reach it.
A car at an outlying property
A Fordingbridge postal address can describe a collection outside the town-centre streets. Include the property name, house number where applicable and the gate serving the car. Ask the keeper to describe the final approach. A narrow bend, low branch or steep change in level should be mentioned before a date is agreed, rather than discovered after everyone has organised their day around the collection.
Explain the standing surface and whether the vehicle has to be reached across soft or uneven ground. If it is behind other cars or stored in a building, arrange access with the responsible person. Do not tell a seller to drag a non-runner into the road to make the job simpler. The position it occupies now should be assessed before anybody attempts to alter it.
For a shared drive, check that neighbours and other users can still access their premises during the proposed arrangement. Permission from the seller does not necessarily cover every part of shared land. If the only gate key belongs to someone who will be away, deal with that in advance. Transport planning needs the practical right to enter, not just a correct street address.
Stored vehicles and project purchases
A car which has stood unused may have changed since the photographs in its advert. Ask about tyres, brake release, steering and the availability of keys. The non-runner transport assessment distinguishes a car which will not start from one whose wheels will not turn. Tell us what has actually been checked and what remains unknown; a cautious description is more useful than an unsupported promise.
If a project has loose panels or missing components, list them. Mention parts intended to travel with it, particularly heavy items or anything which needs separate handling. A vehicle quotation should not unexpectedly turn into a collection of workshop contents. The recipient needs the same information so they have a place for the vehicle and anything separately agreed to accompany it.
For a low or cherished car, explain modifications and clearance concerns before loading is discussed. Our classic car transport service can be considered against the actual vehicle. Recent photographs of the car and its approach can support the enquiry, but the keeper should still disclose conditions that are not obvious in a picture, such as steering which only turns partway.
Taking a car to a repairer
A planned workshop move works best when the garage has confirmed the receiving arrangement. Ask when the car should arrive, who will take the keys and where a non-runner can be placed. A repair slot and an unloading slot are not always the same arrangement. If the business has limited storage, arriving days before an appointment may be inconvenient even when the eventual repair is agreed.
Where the vehicle is transferring between garages, obtain its condition from the workshop currently holding it. Diagnosis may have involved removing a wheel, disconnecting a component or otherwise changing how it can move. Tell AtWheel about that work. Reusing the description from the car’s original breakdown can leave the collection based on a condition which no longer exists.
For a vehicle bought through a dealer or auction, include the release reference and the actual collection department’s instructions. The business collection page explains why those details matter. A sales representative might know the purchase but not the yard arrangements, so the contact managing the handover should be identified before attendance is agreed.
Van size and restricted clearance
AtWheel can handle vans up to 3,500kg. Supply the relevant weight, load and dimensions for the intended movement, including roof equipment or a body conversion. A van being transferred between business premises may contain tools or goods which materially change its description. Confirm who approves the movement and whether anything must be removed before the agreed collection takes place.
Our equipment can work with 2.1m clearance where restricted access is involved, subject to checking the complete route. Lower clearance is not assumed suitable. Ramps, bends and the position of the vehicle remain relevant even when the entrance height meets that figure. Explain the site rather than treating a single measurement as confirmation that all the loading work can happen there.
Ready for delivery and handover
Identify a suitable place for the car to remain after unloading. If it cannot be driven, think ahead to how it will reach a repair bay or another collection point later. Tell us if the space is shared or another vehicle normally blocks it. The destination should be ready to receive the car in the condition being transported, not just have somebody available at the door.
Keep a note of existing damage and any relevant fault information for the person receiving it. Tell them about missing keys, loose items and controls that do not work normally. If somebody else will accept delivery on your behalf, confirm they understand the agreed position and can be contacted. Good instructions are most useful when they reach the people physically taking part in the handover.
Distinguish a preferred date from a fixed deadline when arranging the move. The seller’s availability and the recipient’s receiving window both matter. If one end can be flexible, say so; if neither can, give the actual limits before booking. A clear timing request is more useful than assuming the vehicle can be collected and left whenever one party happens to be available.
