Fit the collection around both ends
A seller available at lunchtime and a garage receiving only at another time create two different constraints. Tell AtWheel both when discussing Hook vehicle transport. A preferred date is useful, but a booking also needs people able to release and receive the car. If either party can be flexible, say so; if a window is fixed, make that clear before the arrangements progress.
Get the registration, make and model together with the exact addresses. A contact who works in Hook may keep the car at home or at a repairer elsewhere. The collection must be planned from where it actually stands. Our vehicle transport service considers the vehicle and the access, rather than treating the seller’s town or business address as the complete description.
Settle the sale, paperwork and authority to release directly with the relevant parties. Transport does not replace inspecting a purchase or resolve a disagreement over a car held by a workshop. If a release reference or approval is outstanding, tell us. It is better to discuss a provisional move honestly than confirm a collection around an assumption that somebody else will sort the release in time.
What the mileage rate applies to
The AtWheel transport mileage rate is £3 per mile for the route starting at PO13 8DG, going to the collection and then continuing to delivery. The journey to reach the car forms part of the charge. A move between two Hook addresses should not therefore be estimated from only the short distance travelled after the vehicle is loaded.
The route basis does not automatically add a return journey after delivery. Planned transport does not automatically add the standard £100 recovery call-out either. Job extras are assessed separately when required by the vehicle or access. Explain locked wheels, unavailable keys or a difficult loading position before treating a simple mileage calculation as the complete quotation for the move.
Use the transport quote form with both postcodes, vehicle condition and timing requirements. A request still needs availability and suitability checks before it becomes an agreed booking. Where an address changes, update it promptly. A different entrance, property or delivery point can affect not just the miles but the handling arrangements on which the quotation was based.
Which Hook collection site?
Hart District Council identifies Crossways Manor car park on Reading Road and Tesco parking on Station Road separately. Hook railway station also has its own parking, listed by National Rail at Station Approach / Road. If any of these sites is part of the proposed collection, specify which one. A buyer arriving by train does not make station parking the automatic handover point for a vehicle.
Tell us whether the car is already at that site or somebody intends to move it there. Public parking may be a convenient place to meet a seller, but loading needs permission and a suitable position. Discuss the proposal with AtWheel before agreeing it with the other party. The space needed to park a car is not necessarily enough for the equipment and movement involved in collection.
Keep pedestrian meeting arrangements separate from vehicle directions. The place you wait with documents may be reached differently from the car’s bay. Provide the actual entrance, operator instructions and any barrier arrangements. If the keeper has been told to contact a particular site representative, pass that information on rather than assume every staff member can authorise the collection.
Workplace and business-site handover
If a company car or van is being collected from a workplace, establish whether it is in a staff car park, visitor area or service yard. Give the entrance which serves that space and the name of the person authorising entry. Reception, security and the vehicle keeper may each hold different information, so the agreed collection needs to be communicated to whoever will actually meet us.
Confirm where the key will be and whether the normal driver needs to attend. Someone covering the handover should know the vehicle’s registration, condition and destination. If the business must approve a revised instruction or cost, identify a reachable decision-maker. This prevents a driver being ready to release the vehicle while nobody present can confirm which movement has been authorised.
For a car leaving a dealer or workshop, obtain the release reference and collection department’s instructions. Our dealer and business collection guidance explains why that contact matters. A paid invoice or completed sales conversation does not always mean the keys and vehicle have been made available to the team handling the actual release.
A private drive or shared parking court
At a home address, describe the vehicle’s position and the route from the road to it. Mention a rear entrance, slope, narrow gate or low overhang which affects the approach. If another car is in the way, arrange for its owner to move it. Do not push a non-runner into a road or across a pavement simply to make the address easier for collection.
Where access is shared, check any necessary permission with the person responsible. A seller may control the parking space but not every part of the approach. Tell AtWheel about gates, fobs and who will provide entry. Photographs can help when safely taken, especially if they show the approach and room around the car rather than only its exterior.
The destination deserves an equally clear description. If the car will not move under its own power, decide where it can remain after unloading without trapping another vehicle or blocking shared access. Tell the recipient the condition and intended position before the day. Somebody being available to open the door is not the same as a space being ready to receive a non-runner.
Non-runners and changes since the advert
For non-runner transport, explain starting, driving, wheel movement and steering separately. A car may start but not drive, or have a flat battery while the wheels still rotate. Ask the current keeper what has actually been checked. Uncertain information should remain identified as uncertain rather than be turned into an assurance that the collection will be straightforward.
Tell us about flat tyres, a parking brake which will not release, missing keys or parts removed during diagnosis. A car’s condition may have changed since the photographs or the original enquiry. If a workshop is involved, obtain its current description. The vehicle AtWheel needs to assess is the one ready for collection now, not how it behaved before the fault developed.
List any spare parts or heavy items intended to travel with the vehicle and confirm the recipient expects them. Additional loads or a second address for components should be discussed before quotation. A car movement is not an unspecified agreement to clear a garage. Defining what is included keeps the loading plan and the handover consistent with the job everybody has agreed.
Vans and clearance limitations
AtWheel can handle vans up to 3,500kg, with weight, load and dimensions assessed for the particular movement. Include roof equipment, a conversion or an unusual body type. If goods or tools remain inside, describe them. The business arranging transport should identify who approves the cost and who will be responsible for release and receipt at its two sites.
For restricted entrances, our equipment can work with 2.1m clearance, subject to a complete access check. Lower clearance is not assumed suitable. Height must be considered alongside ramps, turns and the car’s position. For a low or modified vehicle, explain ground-clearance and bodywork concerns too; the classic car transport information offers a useful starting point for those enquiries.
Make the receiving arrangement specific
A repairer should confirm when it can accept the car and where it should be unloaded. Ask for its delivery entrance and the person receiving the keys. A workshop appointment does not automatically authorise early arrival or leaving a car after closing. Give AtWheel the arrangement the business has actually agreed, especially where the vehicle cannot drive into a normal customer space.
Record existing damage and keep relevant fault and key information with the handover instructions. If a contact becomes unavailable or either site changes its timing, update us promptly. Where a later return journey is needed after repairs, discuss it separately once the car’s readiness and condition are known. The first movement does not automatically reserve another date that has not yet been agreed.
