Vehicle transport in Fleet

For a planned car move in Fleet, AtWheel checks the vehicle’s condition and the people involved in releasing and receiving it. We quote the route from PO13 8DG to collection and then delivery, with access and job extras considered before booking. Tell us whether dates are flexible and where the car physically stands, rather than just the seller’s general area.

A useful quote starts with current information

A car described as running when advertised may be in a different state by the time it is collected. Ask the seller or owner for current answers about starting, driving, rolling, steering and parking-brake release. These are separate functions. Pass on any uncertainty instead of assuming that an engine which starts makes the whole loading job straightforward. AtWheel needs to assess the vehicle that will actually be handed over.

Give the registration, make and model, along with the complete addresses. Explain whether the move is a private purchase, dealer handover, repair transfer or another planned collection. Our vehicle transport service works from the whole job: route, condition, access and people at each end. A postcode calculation is useful, but it cannot identify a missing key, a locked gate or a receiving garage that has no space for a non-runner.

If the vehicle is still being prepared or the sale is unfinished, mark the timing as provisional. You can start an enquiry while arrangements develop, but a collection should not be treated as confirmed before release and acceptance are established. Tell us your preferred period and any actual deadline. The available transport window has to work with the seller and recipient as well as the journey itself.

Fleet collection points should be named precisely

Church Road and Victoria Road are distinct Fleet parking sites in Hart's information. If a vehicle is kept in public or managed parking, give the exact facility, section and access arrangement. “Near the shops” or “near the station” may describe where its owner was going without identifying the car. Ask the operator about a collection visit and whether a barrier, keyholder or release process applies.

Fleet Pond has its own parking entrance and a published 2.1m barrier. That is different from the general reserve location on Fleet Road. The pedestrian and cycle links between the pond and station should not be assumed to provide transporter access. If parking there is proposed as a handover location, discuss suitability and permission before moving a vehicle to it. A place convenient for two people to meet is not automatically suitable for loading a car.

For a home or workshop address, explain the final approach. The vehicle may be behind another car, inside a garage or reached through a narrow gate. Describe gradients and the space around it. Safe photographs can help, but a current explanation from the person controlling access is still needed. Do not ask a seller to push an unroadworthy car into traffic simply to create an easier collection position.

The £3 per mile transport route

AtWheel's stated transport rate covers the route from PO13 8DG to collection and then from collection to delivery at £3 per mile. Both legs count. A local move within Fleet therefore cannot be priced only on the gap between buyer and seller. Use the physical vehicle location and the actual delivery postcode, especially when a car is stored away from the seller's contact address.

Suitability, loading access and any job extras are assessed alongside mileage. A further return-to-base leg is not automatically added under this stated arrangement. It is separate from the £100 recovery call-out used for breakdown recovery work. Our vehicle transport cost guide explains why comparisons should use the same condition and access assumptions rather than a headline price for a different type of job.

Use the transport quote form to begin the enquiry. The calculation or submitted request does not by itself confirm availability, reserve an appointment or complete payment. The practical booking still needs checking. If the recipient changes the destination, a seller relocates the car or a handling problem develops, contact us so the quotation can be reviewed against the revised movement.

Private buying checks and release authority

Settle purchase terms, payment and any inspection you require directly with the seller. AtWheel transporting a car does not certify its mechanical condition or replace the checks you want before buying. If there is a disagreement about the description or documents, resolve it before collection is expected. The transport handover should concern an agreed release, not an unfinished transaction that a driver is asked to settle on arrival.

Confirm who will attend, whether they hold the keys and which paperwork travels with the vehicle. A seller may authorise another person to hand over, but make sure that person knows the arrangement and can access the car. If another parked vehicle has to be moved, organise its owner in advance. A person reachable by phone cannot necessarily solve a physical access problem from somewhere else.

Tell us about additional contents. Spare wheels, detached panels or heavy components should be declared rather than assumed to be included in an ordinary vehicle quote. Our preparation guide helps gather the keys, contacts and access details. Safe photographs of the parking position can be useful, especially where a garage or driveway makes the approach difficult to explain in words.

Dealers and garages need the right contact

For a dealer collection, ask whether the car is at the showroom, preparation area or a separate storage site. Obtain the release contact and any collection reference, then confirm the business has completed its payment and readiness requirements. Our dealer collection information covers the handover details when sales, accounts and workshop staff all play a part. A general business number is not always enough to reach someone who can release keys.

If a garage is handing the car to another repairer, request a current condition description. Diagnosis or dismantling may have affected its ability to roll or steer. Tell us about parts removed or travelling loose, and give the same information to the recipient. A car delivered to the first workshop as a runner may require a different collection plan when it leaves.

The receiving garage should confirm its vehicle entrance, unloading position and a person available to take the keys. A repair appointment does not automatically authorise an unattended drop outside opening hours. If it cannot accept a non-runner at the proposed time, change the plan before collection. Keeping the two sites coordinated is especially useful when you will not be present at either end.

Non-runners, low cars and unusual conditions

Our non-runner transport service assesses how a car moves independently of whether its engine starts. Tell us about locked wheels, damaged tyres, steering faults and a parking brake that will not release. Identify electric or hybrid vehicles and any known damage or handling information. Do not force controls or improvise a tow to make the vehicle seem ready; an accurate unknown is better than an optimistic assumption.

For lowered, modified or cherished vehicles, describe suspension changes, splitters and relevant clearances. Gradients at both addresses can matter even if the road is wide. Our classic car transport page helps owners organise handling notes. Explain any special starting or locking procedure before collection, and tell us if the car's condition has changed since photographs or an earlier quote were supplied.

If a vehicle is damaged, mention leaks, loose bodywork and anything affecting secure handling. Do not work around unstable or exposed components to gather details. The assessment uses the whole situation, including where the car stands and how it can reach a loading position. A close-up photograph of a fault does not show a narrow gate or the turn needed to get to the vehicle.

Height barriers and van dimensions

AtWheel can work with 2.1m clearance subject to assessing the site and movement. Fleet Pond's published barrier is one local example where the current entrance and route still need checking. The same principle applies to covered or multi-storey parking: internal beams, ramps, turns and bay position matter. We do not promise access below 2.1m or assume every entrance displaying that height makes the whole job suitable.

Vans up to 3,500kg can be handled subject to checking weight, dimensions and load. Give available weight details and describe conversions, high roofs, roof equipment and trailers. Fixed racking, tools and goods should be declared. A working van may differ from an empty standard model, and separate unloading, cargo delivery or storage should be discussed expressly rather than assumed to be included.

A destination ready for the car

At home, select somewhere the vehicle can remain without blocking shared access. Think about a later garage collection if it cannot be driven. Explain the driveway and nominate someone who can accept the keys. Keep the delivery instructions consistent with the quotation. If the recipient changes or cannot attend, contact the booking person before collection starts so the handover can be adjusted properly.
