A transport quote starts with the full road route
AtWheel charges £3 per mile for the quoted route from PO13 8DG to the collection postcode and then to the delivery postcode. The approach to collect the vehicle is included in that route. We do not automatically add a return journey to PO13 8DG. Suitability, access and any job extras are checked separately so that the final quotation describes the complete movement rather than simply multiplying an incomplete distance by a rate.
For Hythe enquiries, give the full Hampshire postcode. The name alone can be confused with locations elsewhere in the country, and a broad town label does not identify the road entrance. Use our vehicle transport quote form to send the route and vehicle details. Add any special access instructions in the enquiry. A calculated distance is useful for pricing, but submission is not confirmation of an immediate booking or an online payment for an accepted job.
Hythe lies on the Waterside side of Southampton Water. A short line across the water on a map is not the distance a vehicle transporter travels to a Southampton destination. Plan with the collection and delivery road addresses, including the actual workshop or property entrance. Our transport cost guide explains the route and other information behind a quotation, helping you compare the same journey and work when considering different arrangements.
Agree the receiving place before collecting the car
The person receiving the vehicle should know it is arriving on a transporter and understand its condition. A garage might accept a running car at reception but require an undriveable one at a yard entrance. A residential recipient may need another vehicle moved from the driveway. Confirm those details before choosing the collection window. A delivery address without permission, suitable space or an available recipient is not a complete handover arrangement.
If you are buying a car, agree the sale and release directly with the seller. Transport does not include a mechanical purchase inspection, settling a disputed transaction or proving that someone is entitled to sell the vehicle. Give the seller AtWheel's collection arrangement and make sure an authorised person has the keys. Where a business requires a release reference, pass it on accurately and confirm whether any paperwork must be completed before the vehicle can leave.
Keep the main decision-maker reachable while the movement takes place. A seller or garage may need an answer about a changed condition, destination or missing item. If you will be at work and cannot take calls, agree an authorised alternative contact beforehand. This prevents a practical handover question from becoming a long delay simply because everyone on site assumes that someone elsewhere has already made the decision.
Hythe town parking is not one collection site
Jones Lane and New Road are distinct parking locations, with New Road also identified locally by the library. If a vehicle is legitimately being collected from managed parking, give the car park name and its actual position rather than just “Hythe centre”. Check the operator's access and release requirements. A public parking space should not be selected as a convenient handover venue without first establishing that the proposed loading and attendance are permitted and suitable.
The wider parish also includes Dibden and Dibden Purlieu. For a home collection, the precise street and driveway description matter more than a general area label. Explain gates, slopes, shared access or the need for another person to move a parked car. We may ask for photographs to understand an awkward approach. Include the difficult turn or obstruction in those images, not only the vehicle itself, so the assessment reflects what a transporter would actually encounter.
Cars moving between owners and workshops
AtWheel's Hampshire vehicle transport service can be used for planned purchases, garage transfers and other agreed vehicle movements. A Hythe seller may need a car delivered to a buyer across the county; an owner may need a failed car taken to a specialist after arranging a repair appointment. Tell us which party will release it and who will receive it, even if you are paying for transport on someone else's behalf.
With a dealer or auction purchase, confirm that the car is ready for release and that any site appointment can be arranged. The sales office's address may not identify the collection yard. Our dealer and auction collection service explains the release details to obtain. Do not assume that the collection can happen simply because the purchase is paid: keys, paperwork, yard access and the vehicle's current condition still need to be established.
For workshop transfers, ask whether the car has been dismantled or left unable to roll during diagnosis. Explain any loose parts and agree how they will be secured for the move. Tell the receiving repairer what is coming, particularly if the engine does not run or the steering or braking is affected. That conversation avoids sending a vehicle to a premises that is prepared for a routine customer drop-off but cannot receive it in its present state.
Stored vehicles and non-runners
A car that has been standing at a Hythe property may have changed since it was last driven. Tell us what is currently known about the battery, tyres, brakes, steering and keys. If you have not checked whether it rolls, say so. There is no need to force it out of a garage or attempt a makeshift tow to provide a more reassuring answer. The transport plan must be based on its real condition, including unanswered questions.
AtWheel assesses non-runner transport individually. A car that will not start but rolls freely presents different issues from one with a locked wheel or damage underneath. Explain the surface where it stands and the available approach. A soft edge, a confined garage or another vehicle blocking the exit may change the collection arrangement. Tell us early if the keys are missing, since the presence of a registration number does not establish that the car can be accessed or controlled.
For a cherished older vehicle, read about classic car transport and describe low clearance, fragile fittings or known leaks before the booking. Record its visible condition and identify existing damage at handover. A careful description supports the movement; it does not replace an agreed inspection or imply that a transport quotation includes repairs. Ask about any particular concern before attendance so it can be considered as part of the actual collection requirements.
Height, access and vehicles up to 3,500kg
AtWheel can work with 2.1m clearance, subject to assessing the route and working space. For covered parking, supply the entrance limit, floor, internal restrictions and ramps. We do not promise access below 2.1m or treat a matching sign as proof that every part of the operation will fit. If the car is in a restricted area, establish that at the enquiry stage so the movement can be considered before a collection window is agreed.
We can handle vans up to 3,500kg where the job is suitable. Provide the body type, dimensions and load information, including roof equipment or conversions. If a business needs a loaded van moved, discuss the load rather than assuming it is irrelevant to vehicle transport. The receiving site must also have space for the handover. Staff parking and a commercial yard can have different entrances and permissions even when they share the same postcode.
Prepare the car and the people involved
An electric or hybrid car needs its exact model and current condition described too. Tell us about displayed warnings, known damage and whether it can be put into its normal movement state, without attempting unfamiliar procedures to find out. A statement that it is “out of charge” should not conceal another fault or uncertainty about the wheels and brakes. Vehicle-specific handling information is more useful than an assumption that every electric car can be loaded in the same way.
If the destination is a charger rather than a workshop or home, say so at enquiry. Check that the proposed receiving site allows the handover and that somebody will take responsibility for the vehicle. Transporting a car to an address does not guarantee an available charging space, a working charger or that charging will resolve the problem. Those details should be settled with the recipient or site before they become part of the agreed movement.
Our preparation guide helps owners organise keys, belongings, vehicle information and handover contacts. Remove personal items you do not want travelling with the car and agree any parts or documents that must accompany it. Make sure the seller knows which registration is being collected, especially at a premises holding several vehicles. Tell AtWheel about a change in the vehicle's condition or availability as soon as you learn of it.
Planned transport and urgent recovery have different starting points. If the car has broken down during a journey, use Hythe breakdown recovery and describe the immediate situation. For a scheduled move, call 07444 400271 or submit the route enquiry. Nearby collection information is available for Marchwood vehicle transport and Southampton vehicle transport. We will work through the full route, access and two handovers before the proposed job is confirmed.
