Make the collection work for you and the seller
Finding a car is one part of the purchase. Getting it from the seller’s address to yours can involve a different set of decisions, particularly when neither person can spend the whole day waiting. AtWheel arranges planned vehicle transport for West End in Hampshire. Start with the two addresses and the vehicle registration, then tell us what you have agreed with the person releasing it.
You might be buying privately, collecting a vehicle from a business or moving your own car to a workshop. We want to understand the actual movement before giving you a quote. A running car on an open driveway and a non-runner behind a locked entrance need different preparation, even when their collection and delivery addresses are close together.
Use our vehicle transport quote form for a planned enquiry or call 07444 400271 to discuss an awkward detail. Tell us about any collection deadline at the start. We will check availability with the proposed arrangements before you commit to a handover time with the other person.
Be specific about West End and the collection address
Please include Hampshire and the full address when making your enquiry. “West End” alone leaves too much room for confusion, while a postcode may cover several entrances or properties. We need the building number or name, road, postcode and the place where the vehicle is actually standing. If the entrance used by vehicles differs from the front door address, describe it separately.
For local reference, West End Parish Council lists the Parish Centre on Chapel Road and community facilities including Townhill Farm Community Centre. Those names can help locate an address, but a nearby landmark is not permission to use its parking area for a collection. Keep the vehicle’s own address and any proposed meeting point clearly distinguished.
If you live elsewhere and the seller has described the location simply as Southampton, ask them to confirm the precise West End collection details. You can send those details to us without knowing the area yourself. A short entrance description from the person on site is more useful than making a guess from an advert’s approximate map.
Questions to settle before collecting a purchased car
Ask the seller whether the vehicle is ready to be released, who holds the keys and who will be there for collection. The person answering messages about the sale may not be the person available on the day. Give us an agreed contact for the handover, with their knowledge, and tell them that AtWheel is arranging the movement.
Then establish the car’s present condition. An advert may say it runs, but that does not tell us whether it currently starts, selects gear or moves freely. Ask about changes since the photographs were taken. If the seller is uncertain, pass that uncertainty on to us. You do not need to turn an incomplete answer into a confident description just to complete the quote form.
Buying advice and transport arrangements should be kept clear. Collection is not an assessment of whether the car is a good purchase. If you want an examination before deciding, read about our vehicle inspection service and discuss the car, seller’s permission and appointment arrangements separately. Tell us whether a possible inspection needs to happen before any transport booking is confirmed.
Collections from a business, hotel or managed site
A vehicle left at a managed site needs the agreement of someone who can authorise its release and access. A reception desk may know the vehicle is there without holding the keys or having authority to hand it over. Establish those roles before booking, especially if the owner has already gone home or the vehicle belongs to a visiting contractor.
At the Utilita Bowl, the published address is Botley Road, West End. Its visitor guide provides event and travel information. If your vehicle is at that site, ask the relevant site contact which entrance and collection arrangements apply to your visit. Do not assume that a visitor parking booking also allows transport loading in the same place.
Let us know about a gate, barrier, sign-in process or requested appointment window. We can consider the proposed collection once the requirements are understood. Site access is agreed for the particular collection, and the operator’s arrangements may affect what can be agreed for a particular day. Send any relevant instructions through before the booking is finalised.
Home collections where parking is shared
At a house, the person handing over the car usually knows which gate opens and which neighbouring vehicle needs moving. At a block of flats or shared parking area, those details can be less obvious. Tell us whether the space belongs to the property, is reached through a controlled entrance or needs a resident to provide access.
Explain where the car is in relation to buildings and other vehicles. Photographs from an ordinary safe standing position can help show a tight turn, driveway slope or limited space in front of the car. Include the approach as well as the car itself. Do not climb onto anything, stand in traffic or move a vehicle you cannot safely control to get a better photograph.
If the seller offers to meet elsewhere, discuss that proposal with us first. A different collection point changes the booking details and needs to be appropriate for the vehicle and loading. We should all be working from one agreed plan rather than separate messages giving the owner, driver and buyer different locations.
Moving a non-runner without guessing what is wrong
A car can be safely parked and still need transport because it will not start or should not be driven. We can discuss a planned non-runner movement from West End once we know its condition and the access at both ends. Describe what you know, including when it last moved and any work carried out since then.
We need to understand whether it rolls, steers and releases its brakes, whether the keys are available and whether any wheel or suspension damage affects movement. “Needs a battery” is not a complete description if the car has been standing and its ability to move has not been checked. Equally, you do not need to diagnose an engine fault before contacting us.
Our non-runner transport guide explains the practical information that helps us assess a job. Tell us if parts have been removed, the wheels have been changed or the vehicle is currently supported for repair. We will discuss suitability before agreeing collection; do not try to improvise a way to drag it into a more convenient position.
Book the receiving workshop as well as the transport
When a repairer has offered an appointment, ask whether the car can be delivered by transport and who will accept it. The workshop may have instructions about the entrance, key handover or parking position. Explain the vehicle’s condition to them, particularly if it cannot move under its own power after unloading.
A morning repair appointment does not necessarily mean the workshop can accept a vehicle the evening before. Likewise, the address on an invoice may lead to the office rather than the usable entrance. We need the arrival instructions given by the person responsible for receiving the car. Send us their name and contact number with permission.
For a transfer between two businesses, confirm that the first has released the vehicle and the second has accepted the proposed delivery. If work, payment or paperwork is still outstanding, let us know. We can plan the transport around confirmed arrangements, but we cannot resolve a disagreement about whether a business is ready to hand over the car.
Prepare the car without changing the agreed condition
Remove everyday valuables and anything you need before the car arrives at its destination. Check for house keys on the same ring, medication, work passes and parking permits you may still need. Decide which vehicle keys are travelling and which person is responsible for documents. Keep those arrangements clear rather than leaving items in the car without mentioning them.
Tell us about loose parts, additional wheels or other items you would like moved with the vehicle. Their inclusion needs to be agreed; the boot is not an automatic allowance for a separate load. If the car has been sold with parts, the buyer and seller should provide the same list so nothing is assumed at handover.
Our collection preparation guide gives you a practical starting point. Avoid making last-minute changes that affect loading, such as removing a wheel or dismantling a component after sending us photographs. If work has to continue before collection, explain what will change and update us when the final condition is known.
Transport for suitable vans and business vehicles
If a van needs moving for a purchase, sale or workshop visit, tell us its registration, make, model and current load. We can handle vans up to 3,500kg, subject to assessing the vehicle and the proposed job. The registration helps identify it, but we also need to know about a conversion, roof equipment or anything else that changes its size or weight.
For a company vehicle, name the person who can approve the booking and the person who can release it. They may be different people. Provide the correct business details and any purchase order or job reference you need associated with the movement. Discuss those requirements before the transport is arranged, rather than leaving the driver to obtain approval at the address.
Our trade and fleet service information is useful when coordinating more than one person or business. A van transport booking does not automatically include unloading its stock, moving tools to another vehicle or transporting employees. Tell us what is needed so the agreed vehicle movement has a clear scope.
Delivery when the owner cannot attend
You do not need to be the person at both ends, but each handover needs an agreed responsible contact. If a relative, employee or colleague will receive the vehicle, make sure they know the registration, expected destination and whether the car will be able to move afterwards. They should also know which keys or documents are being handed over.
Give the receiver enough information to prepare the space. A car left in front of a garage door may prevent another vehicle being used; a non-runner placed on the wrong side of a shared entrance may be difficult to reposition. Agree the intended position before collection and tell us if the receiver has different instructions.
Keep a contact available during the agreed movement. If the receiver suddenly cannot attend or access changes, call us as soon as you know. Do not assume that unattended delivery, a neighbour taking the keys or an alternative address can be substituted without discussion. Those changes need a fresh agreement about responsibility and access.
Selling your car from West End to a buyer elsewhere
If you are the seller, ask the buyer who is arranging the transport and which vehicle they have booked. Give them accurate collection details and make sure you know who will contact you. You should not have to guess whether a message about “the car” relates to the agreed sale, particularly if more than one vehicle is kept at the address.
Settle the sale and your release instructions with the buyer directly. Tell us if collection is still conditional on something being completed. We need to know that the vehicle can be handed over before a driver is sent to collect it. Keep one agreed contact responsible for changes so an instruction from a family member does not conflict with the owner’s decision.
Before the handover, remove belongings that are staying with you and identify the items included in the sale. Let the buyer know about any change in the car’s condition, then ensure we have that information too. A transport arrangement works best when the person releasing the car and the person receiving it have the same understanding of what is being collected.
Ask for a quote with the details that affect your move
For a useful quote, send the collection and delivery addresses, vehicle details, current condition, access information and your preferred dates. Include any genuine restriction, such as a seller available only during a particular period or a workshop that requires a booked arrival. If you have flexibility, say so; we can consider it while checking availability.
We quote for the movement you describe and discuss the arrangements before booking. An enquiry is the start of that conversation. Tell us about any uncertainties rather than leaving a field with an assumption that could affect loading or delivery. You can read what affects a vehicle transport quote before contacting us if you want to understand why we ask for these details.
For a vehicle that has broken down and needs assistance now, use our West End recovery page and call with its location. For a planned car move, return to the AtWheel transport service or request your West End transport quote. We will help turn the proposed collection into a clear arrangement for everyone involved.
