Collecting a car from work takes more than a company address
A car kept at a Whiteley workplace may sit behind a barrier controlled by reception, security or an employee pass. Before requesting transport, establish who can admit the collecting vehicle and who can authorise release of the car itself. Those are not always the same person. AtWheel needs the building, vehicle entrance and named contact, as well as the registration and proposed destination.
If the owner will be away, arrange a keyholder who understands the job. Reception may be willing to hold keys without having permission to release a vehicle, so make the arrangement explicit. Give the contact the correct registration and explain whether the car starts, rolls and steers. A remote booking works when someone at the site can answer practical questions instead of everyone relying on an owner who cannot see the car.
Tell us about gate hours or a collection appointment before suggesting a time. The normal office day may not match the period when security can assist. If the car is in a staff-only area or a numbered bay, include that detail. Our Hampshire vehicle transport service is planned around the actual handover rather than a general postcode that covers several premises.
Shopping-centre parking is a separate access question
Whiteley's shopping centre uses multiple named car parks, including East, Cinema A, Tesco and Market Square. If a car has been left there awaiting a planned move, tell AtWheel which site and position are involved. The centre's FAQ says its parking does not accommodate large vehicles or vans, so outside collection access must be discussed with the responsible operator. We do not assume a standard transporter can use every customer entrance.
Ask the site team how the proposed collection should be arranged and who will permit it. Pass those instructions to us, including any gate or appointment requirement. A transport booking does not extend parking permission or resolve charges. If your car has just failed and you need immediate help, use Whiteley recovery rather than treat the situation as an ordinary scheduled move.
Do not reposition a non-runner into a service road without an agreed safe plan. Describe its current parking position and condition first. A car that cannot steer or release its parking brake may need a different approach from a car that runs normally. Photographs can help explain the layout when safely obtained, but they should not replace the site name and access contact.
The car and the price must describe the same movement
Give the registration, make, model and present condition when requesting a quote. If the car is running, say whether any fault still prevents it being driven on the road. If it is not, describe wheel movement, steering and key availability. A seller's older advertisement or a workshop's original intake note may no longer match the vehicle after storage or repairs. Current information is the basis of a useful transport arrangement.
AtWheel charges £3 per mile from PO13 8DG to the collection postcode and then from collection to delivery. Both legs count, including the approach before the car is loaded. The stated calculation does not automatically add a return-to-base journey. It also does not assume the recovery call-out applies to planned transport; that is a separate service charge.
For an illustration, a 16-mile approach and a 24-mile delivery leg total 40 miles, producing a £120 mileage amount. Those are invented example distances, not a quote for Whiteley. Your actual route, vehicle suitability, handling and any job extras need checking. The postcode quote form lets you submit the locations alongside the practical details.
An estimate or enquiry is not an instant confirmed booking, payment or guarantee of a slot. State preferred dates and any fixed release deadline before confirmation. If the destination changes from home to a garage, or the car moves to another storage site, update AtWheel. The original price should not be assumed to cover a route or loading position different from the one described.
Private purchases and cars sold through a business
For a private sale, make sure the seller has authorised collection and that your sale and payment agreement is settled between you. AtWheel needs the releasing person's contact and the exact address, but does not complete an unfinished purchase or decide whether the advertised condition is accurate. If a relative will attend for the seller, confirm they have the keys and permission to release the correct car.
For a dealer, provide the stock number and release instructions. Customer opening hours may not be collection hours, so ask for the handover window specifically. Our auction and dealer collection page explains the references and contacts worth obtaining. Have the requirements checked before you promise the seller a time on AtWheel's behalf.
List accompanying parts, extra wheels and any other items before the job is priced. Do not assume a car-transport booking includes an extra goods collection. Agree the key and document handover, and keep your own record of visible condition and expected items. A buyer who does not attend collection should still know what is being released and what the recipient is expecting.
Workshop transfers after diagnosis or repairs
Ask the releasing workshop about the vehicle's condition at the point of collection. A car may have arrived running and then had wheels, trim or mechanical parts removed. Tell AtWheel if it cannot roll or steer, if the battery is disconnected or if anything is unsecured. The next workshop needs the same information to prepare an appropriate unloading and storage space.
Give the vehicle gate and handover contact at both businesses. A reception address may not identify the route into the workshop yard. Agree opening and acceptance windows, especially where the car is going to a specialist with limited space. A proposed pickup works only if the delivery end is ready for the vehicle in its present state. Do not assume it can be left outside a closed garage.
If repairs mean a later journey back to the owner, describe that as a further movement to discuss. The route calculation for the first transfer does not silently include collecting it again after the work is finished. Tell us whether a return date is known or depends on the repairer. Each stage needs its own access, timing and price understood before it is treated as arranged.
Non-runners, classic cars and vans
For non-runner transport, tell us which functions still work. A car with an engine fault but freely moving wheels is different from one with seized brakes or suspension damage. Do not force a brake or drag it out to make the description simpler. If movement has not been checked, say so and have the uncertainty assessed rather than promise an easy load.
A low or modified car needs its driveway or ramp approach considered. Mention spoilers, lowered suspension and special operating instructions. The classic car transport information helps you prepare relevant handling details. A short local journey does not remove the need to protect a vehicle from an unsuitable entrance or loading angle.
Vans up to 3,500 kg can be discussed, subject to actual suitability. Include load, racking, tools and roof equipment in the description. If the collection is at a business, confirm the permitted route rather than assuming a delivery vehicle's access applies to every transporter. Passenger travel and additional materials should be discussed separately from movement of the vehicle.
Clearance and the intended final parking place
AtWheel can work with 2.1 m clearance, but a covered site also needs enough turning and loading space. Give the posted height, level and route to the car. Ramps or overhead fittings may limit a position beyond the entrance. Access below 2.1 m is not promised. Obtain the operator's instructions before assuming that a gate or barrier can be opened for collection.
At delivery, choose somewhere the car can remain without immediately needing another move. A non-runner should not block shared access or another business's entrance. Tell us about slopes and gates and arrange an authorised recipient for the keys. Keep a contact reachable if the allocated space becomes unavailable so any change can be agreed rather than improvised.
