Vehicle transport in Alton

An Alton car collection may need a seller to open a garage, a workshop to release parts or a buyer to arrange someone at home for delivery. AtWheel checks those handovers with the route and vehicle condition. We quote from PO13 8DG through collection to delivery and agree the practical requirements before treating a planned movement as booked.

Collecting from a home or rural property

Start with the address where the car physically stands. A seller advertising in the Alton area may keep it at another property or in a separate storage building. Give AtWheel the property name, full postcode and entrance that can be used. A map pin helps with a broad address, but it should be paired with instructions from the person who controls access. It does not establish permission to use a nearby private track.

Describe the car's position and the approach. A narrow gate, sloping drive or another vehicle parked in front can matter even if the road outside is wide. Tell us whether the surface is firm, gravel, grass or unmade. If a keyholder must attend or another car needs moving, organise it before collection. Do not ask a seller to push an unsafe car onto the street to create a more convenient loading point.

Our vehicle transport service covers enquiries for Alton purchases, workshop transfers, dealer collections and other planned movements. Explain your preferred dates and actual deadlines, with any unfinished arrangement marked provisional. The booking should describe a car that can be released and a destination that can accept it. A route enquiry can start the conversation, but it is not a substitute for those practical confirmations.

Town and station addresses need the exact parking site

Lady Place, Turk Street and The Bank are separately named parking sites in Alton. If a car is being collected from parking, provide the facility and section rather than the shop or appointment its owner visited. Ask the operator about authorised collection access, barriers and any staff attendance required. A place where a car may park is not automatically a place where every loading arrangement is suitable.

For a station-related enquiry, distinguish Alton from other Watercress Line locations such as Alresford. The railway's visitor information identifies separate starting points and notes that Alton station parking is operated by South Western Railway. Tell us where the car actually is and who controls its release. If the owner is at another station, agree who will attend with the keys or authorise access at the car's location.

Use current site instructions, not an old parking description from another visit. If a gate, temporary obstruction or changed entrance affects the car, include that information. Pedestrian access from an attraction or station should not be assumed to provide a transporter route. The person at the premises can usually confirm the practical way to reach the car more usefully than a broad reference to a nearby landmark.

How AtWheel quotes the transport route

The stated transport rate is £3 per mile for the route from PO13 8DG to collection, then from collection to delivery. Both legs form the calculation. A short move between Alton addresses therefore cannot be priced solely on the distance between those two points. Use the complete postcodes for the physical vehicle locations, especially where an owner or dealer's contact address is different from the place the car is stored.

We check suitability, loading access and any job extras alongside mileage. An additional return-to-base leg is not automatically added under this stated arrangement. It is separate from the £100 standard recovery call-out used for recovery work. Our transport cost guide explains why quotations should be compared using the same route and handling information rather than an unrelated service's headline price.

Start through the vehicle transport quote form. A calculation or submitted enquiry does not itself reserve availability, confirm a time or complete payment. The practical booking still needs agreement. Tell us if the car changes location, stops rolling or acquires a new access restriction after the quote. A changed destination or handling situation may require a revised arrangement even if the vehicle remains the same.

Buying from a private seller

Complete the purchase and any inspection or document checks you require directly with the seller. AtWheel transporting the car does not certify its mechanical condition or settle questions about the sale. If payment, preparation or release remains unresolved, explain that the collection date is provisional. The driver should arrive for an authorised handover rather than become part of negotiating an unfinished transaction.

Ask for current answers about starting, driving, rolling, steering and parking-brake release. “It ran when parked” can be out of date. Tell us about a missing key, flat tyre, seized brake or damage. If the seller has not checked a function, pass that uncertainty on. A precise unknown helps the loading assessment more than a confident assurance that turns out to describe the car as it was months earlier.

Confirm who will be present with keys and relevant paperwork. If a friend or relative is releasing the vehicle, ensure the seller has authorised that person and they can access the car. Declare anything accompanying it, such as extra wheels, panels or heavy parts. A vehicle quote is not automatically a separate goods consignment. Our preparation guide helps keep the handover information organised.

Dealer collections and workshop transfers

For a dealer, obtain the release address and contact rather than assuming collection is from the showroom. Cars may be prepared or stored elsewhere. Confirm payment and readiness requirements are complete and provide a collection reference if used. Our dealer collection page explains the useful details where sales, accounts and the people handling vehicles have different roles or work at different locations.

For a car leaving a workshop, ask what has changed during the work. Removed components, disconnected systems or loose parts may affect its ability to move. Give AtWheel the current condition, and tell the receiving garage the same facts. A vehicle delivered to the first repairer as a runner may need a different collection plan later. Its original arrival description should not automatically become the onward transport specification.

The receiving garage should confirm where to unload, which entrance to use and who can take the keys. A repair appointment does not necessarily allow an unattended delivery outside opening hours. If it cannot accept a non-runner at the intended time, resolve the timing before collection. Keeping both sites' instructions together is particularly useful when the owner will not be present to coordinate the handovers in person.

Non-runners and vehicles with particular handling needs

Our non-runner transport service assesses movement separately from whether the engine starts. A locked wheel, damaged suspension or brake that will not release can be important to loading. Identify electric or hybrid vehicles and any known damage or handling guidance. Do not force controls or attempt a makeshift tow to make the car appear ready. We need to assess the actual condition and uncertainties.

For older, cherished or modified cars, explain relevant features in advance. Lowered suspension, splitters and sharp driveway gradients can affect the plan. Our classic car transport information helps prepare handling notes. Describe special starting or locking procedures and tell us if photographs no longer reflect the car's state. A make and model identify the basic vehicle but do not show every change or loading constraint.

Safe photographs of the position and approach can support the enquiry. Include the surrounding space where possible, rather than only the fault itself. Never reach into damaged areas or crawl under an unstable car to obtain images. The assessment considers how the vehicle reaches a loading point as well as how far it will travel, so a narrow gate or uneven surface belongs alongside the condition description.

Height barriers, covered parking and vans

AtWheel can work with 2.1m clearance subject to assessing the site and movement. If collection involves a covered or multi-storey facility, give the current displayed limit, level and route inside. Ramps, turns, beams and room around the car matter too. We do not claim entry below 2.1m or guarantee every site displaying that height is suitable. Arrange operator permission and any barrier release before treating access as confirmed.

Vans up to 3,500kg can be handled subject to checking dimensions, weight and load. Report high roofs, conversions, fixed racking, roof equipment and trailers. Tell us what is inside rather than describing an empty standard example. Separate cargo delivery, storage or unloading should be discussed explicitly if needed. The transport quotation should cover the real vehicle movement without quietly becoming an additional goods-handling job.

Preparing a delivery that works

At home, choose a position where a non-runner can remain without blocking shared access. Think about a later garage collection if it cannot be driven. Tell us about gradients, gates and the receiving person. Keep the keys and instructions accounted for. If the recipient or address changes, contact AtWheel before collection so the route and handover can be checked against the new arrangement.
