Vehicle transport in Petersfield

A Petersfield collection can begin at a town address, a workshop or a rural property beyond the town itself. AtWheel needs the actual entrance and current vehicle condition, together with the destination and release contact. We quote the route from PO13 8DG through collection to delivery and assess the access before agreeing the planned movement.

Beyond a Petersfield postcode

Petersfield is a starting point for visits into the South Downs and surrounding villages, so an advert saying “Petersfield area” may cover more than a town-centre address. Ask the seller where the vehicle physically stands. Give AtWheel the property name, full postcode and usable entrance. A map pin can help with a broad rural address, but it should be paired with instructions from the person who controls the site rather than treated as permission to enter any nearby track.

Describe the access surface, gates and room around the car. If it is on grass, gravel or an unmade approach, say so. Tell us about gradients and tight turns, and whether another vehicle or a keyholder must be available. The journey's last few metres can determine loading suitability even when the road route is straightforward. Do not ask a seller to move an unsafe car onto public road space merely to create a more convenient meeting point.

Our vehicle transport service can be discussed for Petersfield purchases, dealer handovers, garage transfers and other planned movements. Explain the purpose and requested dates, marking provisional details clearly. An enquiry can begin while arrangements are being made, but the booking should reflect a vehicle ready for release and a recipient ready to accept it, rather than assumptions about what will be sorted later.

Town parking and visitor-site handovers

If a vehicle is in public or managed parking, identify the exact facility. East Hampshire's recent information lists Central, Festival Hall and Swan Street separately. A nearby shop or visitor attraction may explain why the owner is there without identifying the car's entrance. Give the section or bay and ask the operator about authorised collection access, barriers and any person needed to release the vehicle.

Queen Elizabeth Country Park is outside Petersfield on the A3, while Heath Pond and town-centre parking are different locations. Do not combine them under a vague instruction to collect near the town. If a visitor site is proposed as a handover point, confirm suitability and permission before arranging to move a car there. A walking route from a parking area is not automatically a vehicle approach, and a convenient meeting place may not provide suitable loading space.

Tell us what access is available now, including temporary obstructions or a locked gate. Old instructions from another person's visit should not be assumed to describe the current collection. If the owner is away, agree who can attend with keys and permission. Somebody answering a phone may be unable to open a physical barrier or move the vehicle parked in front of the car being collected.

The mileage route behind the quotation

AtWheel's stated transport rate is £3 per mile from PO13 8DG to the collection point and then from collection to delivery. Both legs count. A short transfer within Petersfield is therefore not priced only on the distance between those two addresses. Use the actual physical collection and delivery postcodes, particularly where a car is advertised from one address but stored at another.

The vehicle, access and any job extras are checked alongside mileage. The stated arrangement does not automatically add a further return-to-base leg after delivery. It is separate from the £100 recovery call-out used for recovery work. Our transport cost guide explains why a useful comparison uses the same route and loading assumptions, rather than comparing a freely running forecourt collection with a car that has locked wheels in a narrow yard.

Start with the transport quotation form. A calculation or submitted enquiry does not itself reserve availability, confirm a time or complete payment. We still need the practical movement agreed. If the destination changes or the seller relocates the vehicle, tell us before relying on the earlier quote. A different entrance or handling condition may also affect the job even when the postcode remains unchanged.

Private purchases and release arrangements

Complete the buying checks you want directly with the seller before collection. AtWheel moving a car does not certify its mechanical condition or replace an inspection, document check or agreement about the sale. If payment or release is unresolved, mark the transport date as provisional. A driver should arrive for an authorised handover rather than be asked to settle an unfinished transaction or disagreement over what was included.

Ask for current condition information. Does the car start and drive, can it roll and steer, and does the parking brake release? “Drove when parked” may be out of date. Tell us about missing keys, flat tyres, seized brakes and known damage. If the seller has not checked a function, pass that uncertainty on. An accurate unknown is better for an assessment than a confident description based on how the vehicle ought to behave.

List anything accompanying the vehicle. Extra wheels, spare panels and heavy components should be declared rather than assumed to be included. A car transport quote is not automatically a separate goods consignment. Confirm who will hand over keys and paperwork, and make sure that person can provide the agreed access. Our transport preparation guide helps keep the practical information together.

Dealer and garage collections

For a dealer purchase, establish whether the release address is the showroom, a preparation site or a storage compound. Obtain a collection contact and reference if the business uses one. Confirm its payment and readiness requirements are complete before fixing a transport date. Our dealer collection information explains what helps when sales, accounts and the people handling keys are not based in the same place.

For a workshop transfer, ask how the car has changed during the work. Removed components or disconnected systems can affect rolling, steering and braking. Give AtWheel the current description and tell the receiving garage the same facts. A car delivered to a workshop as a runner may need a different collection arrangement once dismantled, so its earlier condition should not automatically be used for the onward quotation.

Ask the recipient for its vehicle entrance, unloading position and a person who can accept the keys. A repair appointment does not necessarily permit an unattended delivery outside opening hours. If the garage cannot accept a non-runner at the intended time, settle another arrangement before collection starts. Keeping both handovers coordinated prevents a planned transfer ending at a gate where the car cannot be received.

Non-runners and cherished vehicles

Our non-runner transport service looks at how the vehicle can move independently of whether its engine starts. A locked brake or damaged suspension can matter more to loading than an engine fault. Identify electric or hybrid vehicles and any known damage or handling guidance. Do not force controls or attempt an improvised tow to make the car seem ready for a simpler job.

For older, cherished or modified cars, explain particular handling requirements and changes to clearance. Lowered suspension, splitters and steep driveway transitions need advance discussion. Our classic car transport page can help organise those notes. Tell us about special starting or locking procedures and whether the car's state has changed since any photographs were taken.

Safe photographs of the vehicle and approach may help clarify the job. Include space around it, gates and obstacles where possible. Do not work around unstable damage or crawl underneath to get images. The assessment combines condition with the route from the parking position to the loading point; a close-up of the car alone does not show whether that approach is suitable.

Vans, extra equipment and height restrictions

Vans up to 3,500kg can be handled subject to assessing dimensions, weight and load. Tell us about high roofs, conversions, fitted racking, roof equipment and trailers. Describe contents honestly rather than quoting the specification of an empty standard van. Separate unloading, cargo delivery or storage should be discussed explicitly if needed; those are not automatically included in the vehicle movement.

Where collection involves covered or multi-storey parking, AtWheel can work with 2.1m clearance subject to assessment. Give the current limit and explain ramps, turns, beams and the vehicle's position inside. We do not claim entry below 2.1m or guarantee every site displaying that height is suitable. Obtain the operator's permission and barrier-release arrangements before treating the access as confirmed.

Receiving the vehicle and booking the journey

For a home delivery, choose somewhere the car can remain without blocking shared access. Consider how a non-runner would be moved again for a garage visit. Tell us about gradients and gates, and arrange a person to receive the keys. Keep the destination instructions current; if the recipient changes or becomes unavailable, contact AtWheel before collection so the movement can be reviewed.
