Controlled sites need more than a postcode
If a car is being collected from an event or business premises, obtain the correct vehicle entrance from the operator. Farnborough International's directions tell visitors to confirm which gate their organiser is using, with Gate A and Gate F having different postcodes. That is a useful reminder to use the instructions for your specific collection. A route to an event entrance does not automatically establish permission for a transporter to enter a controlled area.
Tell AtWheel whether the vehicle is in public parking, a compound or another part of the site. Identify the release contact and any reference, escort or attendance requirement. We do not claim automatic access to airport-related or event premises. The site must confirm what is authorised for the job. A person who can supply the right gate and release the car makes the handover much more reliable than a broad instruction to collect somewhere near the airport.
Check the collection window with the actual operator, especially after an event has finished. The time when a venue is open to visitors may differ from the time a vehicle can be released. If you will not attend, agree who has the keys and can meet the driver. Our vehicle transport service uses these arrangements alongside the route, rather than treating a postcode as a complete collection plan.
Town-centre access and changing parking arrangements
Rushmoor describes Farnborough town centre as largely pedestrianised, with controlled bollard access at Queensmead and Eastmead. A vehicle within a controlled area needs the relevant access permission; a transport booking does not remove that requirement. Ask the site or responsible operator about the collection and pass confirmed instructions to AtWheel. Do not assume a pedestrian approach shown on a map is a route a transporter may use.
The council's current development information identifies the former Queensmead car park as part of the leisure construction site. Use the car's current location and entrance rather than an old parking description. If somebody gives you “Queensmead” as the handover point, clarify the exact premises or parking facility. The Meads and other named sites should be identified individually, with the level and section where relevant.
For a residential address or workshop yard, describe the final approach and where the vehicle stands. Tell us about gates, tight turns, gradients and cars blocking access. A photograph can help if safely taken, but the person controlling the premises needs to confirm what can be used. We assess loading from the actual position; asking a seller to move an unroadworthy car into traffic to simplify collection is not a substitute for planning.
What the transport mileage includes
AtWheel's stated transport rate is £3 per mile from PO13 8DG to collection and then from collection to delivery. Both legs form the route. If a car is moving only a short distance within Farnborough, the journey to collect it still counts. Give the complete postcodes and physical vehicle locations so the quotation reflects the actual route rather than the seller's office address or the buyer's preferred general area.
Vehicle suitability, access and any job extras are checked separately for the particular movement. We do not automatically add a further return-to-base leg to this stated mileage arrangement. It is distinct from the £100 recovery call-out used for recovery work. Our transport cost information helps explain why quotations should be compared using the same condition, route and site requirements, not just a headline figure.
Start with the transport quotation form and add the vehicle and access details. A submitted enquiry or calculation does not itself confirm a time, reserve availability or complete payment. The booking needs the practical arrangements checked and agreed. If a gate, address or vehicle condition changes after the quote, update us before relying on it for the revised job.
Private purchases and dealer handovers
For a private sale, confirm the exact address where the car is stored and who will release it. Settle payment and any inspection or document checks directly with the seller. AtWheel moving the vehicle does not certify its mechanical condition or replace your buying checks. If the seller is still repairing it or arranging paperwork, make the transport date provisional rather than expecting a driver to resolve an unfinished transaction at collection.
Ask for current condition details. Does the car start and drive, can it roll and steer, and does the parking brake release? If the seller has not checked, pass that uncertainty on. A vehicle that drove when first parked may now have a flat tyre, missing key or battery problem. We need to assess the car being handed over, not a historical description that may no longer explain how it can be loaded.
For a dealer, obtain the release contact and any collection reference. Ask whether the car is at the showroom, preparation site or another compound. Our dealer collection page covers the information to obtain when sales, accounts and vehicle preparation are handled separately. Confirm readiness and permission to release before agreeing the transport period, with a suitable contact who can answer practical questions on the day.
Transport between garages
When a car moves from one workshop to another, ask the first garage how its condition has changed during the work. Removed components, disconnected systems and loose parts can affect handling. Give AtWheel the current rolling, steering and braking information. A vehicle delivered as a runner may not leave that way, so its original arrival description should not automatically be used for onward transport.
The receiving workshop should confirm the vehicle entrance, unloading position and a person who can accept the keys. Tell it if the car cannot roll or steer once unloaded. A repair appointment does not necessarily mean the site can accept a non-runner outside normal receiving arrangements. If there is no space or permission for an early delivery, resolve the timing before the collection starts.
List anything travelling with the car, including detached panels, wheels or heavy components. A vehicle quote does not automatically cover another load of equipment. If either workshop changes the release or receiving instructions, tell the booking contact so everybody works from the same version. The transport preparation guide helps keep the addresses, keys and contacts together.
Non-runners and vehicles needing particular handling
Our non-runner transport service assesses how the car moves independently of engine operation. Tell us about locked brakes, damaged wheels, steering problems and missing keys. Identify electric or hybrid vehicles and any known damage or handling instructions. Do not force controls or improvise a tow to make the car seem ready. Accurate unknowns help the assessment more than assumptions about what should work.
For older, cherished or modified cars, describe the features that matter to loading. Lowered suspension, splitters and sharp changes of gradient at either address need advance discussion. Our classic car transport information can help prepare handling notes. A make and model do not show every modification or condition, so explain the actual vehicle rather than relying solely on a standard specification.
Vans up to 3,500kg can be handled subject to assessing dimensions, weight and load. Tell us about high roofs, conversions, roof equipment and attached trailers. Explain fixed racking, tools and goods inside. Separate cargo transfer, unloading or storage should be discussed expressly if needed; it should not be assumed to be part of moving a working van from one location to another.
Height restrictions and the route to the car
AtWheel can work with 2.1m clearance subject to assessment of the complete access route. For a covered or multi-storey collection, provide the current height restriction, parking level and bay area. Internal beams, ramps, corners and available space also matter. We do not advertise entry below 2.1m or promise every facility displaying that height is suitable. The car's orientation and ability to roll or steer are part of the same assessment.
Arrange operator permission, barrier release and any staff attendance needed. Keep tickets or release references available, and tell us about closing times. Do not move a disabled car into another car park speculatively to create a meeting point. An alternative loading location needs to be safe and authorised, with a suitable way to reach it agreed for the vehicle's condition.
A delivery the recipient can accept
For a home delivery, choose somewhere the car can remain without blocking shared access. Think about a later garage collection if it cannot be driven. Nominate the person who will take the keys and pass on any relevant instructions. The delivery address is more than a finishing postcode: it needs a practical unloading position and a recipient who expects the car in its actual condition.
If the vehicle needs help now after a breakdown, use Farnborough recovery. For nearby planned routes, see Aldershot transport and Fleet car collection. AtWheel is part of SteelMarch Group. Call 07444 400271 with the locations, condition and dates, and we will check the route, release and receiving arrangements for your movement.
