Arranging transport when you cannot be there
You may be organising a Hamble collection while working elsewhere, buying from somebody who is about to travel, or sending a car to a repairer without being able to drive it there. Start by identifying who can release it and who can accept delivery. AtWheel's vehicle transport service brings those arrangements into the quotation so the booking has a practical handover at each end.
Give us a telephone number for the people actually meeting the driver, with their agreement to be contacted about the collection. If the owner is away from the car, explain who has authority and access. A booking contact can approve a movement without being the person holding the keys. Making that distinction early helps us ask the right person about the vehicle and avoids an appointment nobody on site knows about.
Marina and business site collections
Hamble's waterfront includes premises operated by different marinas and businesses. A broad harbour location is not enough to identify where a road vehicle should be collected. Give the full site name, its vehicle entrance and any internal instructions. Check with the premises before arranging a transporter to enter. Permission for the owner to park a car does not automatically settle access for another vehicle carrying out a collection.
If the keys are kept in an office, confirm that somebody will be there for the agreed handover. Include any gate, barrier or parking permit arrangements. A site may have a convenient pedestrian entrance that is unsuitable for loading, so describe the route the car normally uses. AtWheel can consider photographs of the approach if they are taken safely and the site permits them.
Tell us if the car is beside stored equipment, behind another vehicle or attached to a trailer. This page concerns road vehicle transport; any additional item must be discussed as part of the actual job. We need the vehicle's weight and condition, along with an accurate description of what will travel with it. A car packed with heavy equipment is a different proposition from the same car described as empty.
Hamble village parking and loading
The Foreshore car park and The Square are separately managed: the Parish Council looks after the Foreshore, and Eastleigh Borough Council manages The Square. If either appears in the collection instructions, say which one and why the car is there. A named car park helps identify a vehicle, but it should not be selected as a loading meeting point without checking that the proposed activity is appropriate.
For a private address, describe the actual space around the car. A gate, slope or closely parked neighbouring vehicle can affect the loading method. If it is coming off a drive, tell us whether the steering and brakes work. Do not move an unsafe car into the road to make collection appear easier. We would rather discuss the existing position than arrive to a new and more difficult one.
At the receiving address, think beyond the moment the car is unloaded. A non-runner needs a suitable place to remain, and it may need to be moved again when repairs begin. Explain if the intended position blocks a garage, shared access or another car. We can assess the delivery using that information before you commit to a date or tell the seller the arrangements are complete.
The full route, priced at £3 per mile
AtWheel's transport mileage is charged at £3 per mile from PO13 8DG to the collection address and then to the delivery address. The approach to collect the car is part of the charged journey. We use the actual road movement, rather than treating a nearby point on the other side of the river as a straight-line distance. Both locations therefore matter when asking for a quote.
The stated route does not automatically add a return leg after delivery. We discuss vehicle suitability, loading, access and any job extras for the particular movement. The standard £100 recovery call-out is a separate charging arrangement, so it should not be added to a planned transport calculation by assumption. If you are uncertain which service fits, explain what has happened and whether the move is scheduled or an immediate breakdown enquiry.
Use the transport quote form to provide postcodes and vehicle information. A calculated amount or submitted enquiry still needs checking before a booking is confirmed. Tell us about an incomplete address, uncertain vehicle condition or unconfirmed release time rather than leaving those points out. A quote based on the wrong collection details cannot accurately describe the job you need.
Purchasing a car and coordinating release
Before collection, settle the purchase arrangements directly with the seller. Confirm that the car is paid for or otherwise authorised for release, and agree how keys and documents will be handed over. Transport is the movement of the vehicle; it does not replace an inspection, provide a mechanical assessment for the buyer or resolve a sale that has not been completed.
Ask for the vehicle's current condition rather than relying only on the advert. Does it start, drive, roll and steer? Has anything changed since it was photographed? A car that was driven into storage can later have a flat tyre or a brake that no longer releases. Give AtWheel the up-to-date answer so the equipment and collection can be assessed against what the driver will find.
For a dealer or other business, obtain the correct collection contact and any release reference. Our dealer collection guide covers the information to gather. A sales appointment or agreed purchase date is not necessarily the date on which the premises can hand the vehicle to a transporter. Keep these arrangements separate until the responsible people have confirmed them.
Non-runners and careful loading information
With non-runner transport, explain exactly which functions are unavailable. A car that will not start may still roll and steer freely; another may be locked in position. Tell us about keys, the parking brake, wheels and tyres. There is no benefit in guessing that a component works just to complete the form. Mark an unknown clearly and we can explain what must be established before booking.
Low cars and vehicles with modifications need their own handling discussion. Include the suspension, bodywork, ground clearance concerns and the approach surface. For a cherished vehicle, the classic car transport page helps you prepare the relevant details. We want an accurate description of the particular car, including any fragile or loose items, rather than assumptions based solely on its age or model.
Vans can be considered up to 3,500kg, with dimensions, weight and load checked. Explain roof equipment, a conversion or anything that changes the vehicle's size. Where a height-restricted entrance is involved, AtWheel can work with 2.1m clearance subject to assessing turns, ramps and the loading position. We do not assume that a lower barrier or an awkward internal route will be suitable.
Workshop transfers and return journeys
If the vehicle is going for repairs, confirm the workshop can receive it in the condition described. Ask for the unloading entrance, receiving contact and the arrangements for its keys. A garage may be able to accept a running car through customer parking while needing a non-runner delivered elsewhere. Pass on those details before the transport date so the destination is ready for the actual vehicle.
A later return from the workshop is another movement to arrange with the correct addresses and current condition. Tell us whether repairs are complete and whether the car is cleared for collection. If the workshop changes the release date, update us promptly. That allows the transport plan to be adjusted instead of relying on a booking whose key assumption is no longer true.
Book the service that matches your situation
For an unexpected fault requiring assistance now, use Hamble-le-Rice car and van recovery. For collections in neighbouring places, see Bursledon vehicle transport and car transport in Netley. Keep the actual collection and delivery addresses in the enquiry even if a nearby place name is more familiar.
AtWheel is part of SteelMarch Group. Call 07444 400271 with the vehicle, route and proposed timing, or send the transport form when you have those details together. We will check the movement, explain the pricing basis and agree what needs to happen at collection and delivery. Clear access and handover information gives the booking something dependable to work from.
