Vehicle transport in Netley

A vehicle collection in Netley can involve a private seller, a garage or a car that has been off the road for some time. AtWheel plans the handover around the vehicle and the people releasing and receiving it. Supply both postcodes, then explain the access and condition so we can turn the route calculation into a workable transport arrangement.

Start with the two handovers

Before choosing a collection date, establish who will be at each end. A seller may be available only after work while the receiving workshop closes earlier. Those two facts matter as much as the distance. Ask both parties for their preferred window, telephone number and actual vehicle entrance. AtWheel can then discuss timing around a complete movement, rather than a pickup that has no confirmed place to finish.

Our vehicle transport service covers planned movements across Hampshire and enquiries involving Netley collections or deliveries. You may be buying a car, sending one for repairs or bringing a stored vehicle home. Tell us why it needs moving, but concentrate on the practical facts: its size, condition, keys and access. The reason for the journey helps explain priorities; it does not replace the information needed to arrange loading and delivery.

Netley addresses, shoreside landmarks and exact entrances

Netley Abbey is beside Southampton Water. For transport, a familiar waterside landmark is useful background, but the full road address and vehicle entrance are essential. A map pin placed on a walking route or at the place where you will wait may not identify a suitable approach for a collection vehicle. Separate the meeting point from the parked car's position, and explain how the two connect within the site.

Royal Victoria Country Park illustrates why this matters. Its published visitor postcode covers a site with Seafront, Round, Tall Pines, Chapel and Overflow parking areas. If a permitted vehicle collection involves that site, identify the actual parking area and obtain the operator's access instructions. Do not use the park as an improvised collection venue merely because its postcode is easy to find. The location must be suitable, authorised and agreed with everyone involved in the handover.

For residential collections, describe a shared driveway, slope, gate or turning space that cannot be understood from the postal address. Let us know if another vehicle normally blocks the exit. Arrange permission with the relevant person before the collection window, and provide their contact if access depends on them. Photographs can clarify the layout, but they should support an accurate description rather than conceal the difficult part outside the frame.

How we calculate transport mileage

AtWheel's transport rate is £3 per mile for the full quoted route from PO13 8DG to the collection postcode and then to the delivery postcode. This includes the approach to collect the vehicle. It is not calculated only on the miles travelled with your car loaded. There is no automatic return leg in that route formula. Vehicle suitability, access and any job extras still need to be checked before the total is confirmed.

Use the transport quote form to submit the two postcodes and vehicle information. Explain a different entrance or a site that stretches beyond its main postal point in the notes. A postcode calculation is a useful starting point, but it does not establish whether a non-runner can be loaded or a recipient can accept delivery at the requested time. Submission does not itself guarantee an instant booking or take payment for a confirmed movement.

For a clearer explanation of what changes a transport quotation, read our vehicle transport cost guide. The £100 standard recovery call-out is a separate recovery charge; it is not automatically added to every planned transport calculation. Ask for the full agreed transport total and tell us about extra stops before booking. A later change to the destination or handling requirement needs to be considered against the actual work involved.

Buying a car from a private seller

Confirm that the seller is ready to release the vehicle to AtWheel. They need the collection arrangement, the registration being collected and a way to contact you if there is a question. Finish the purchase and document arrangements directly with them; booking transport does not establish ownership, settle a sale or provide an inspection of the car. If someone is acting for the seller, make sure they have clear authority and the keys.

Ask the seller specifically whether the vehicle starts, rolls, steers and stops using its normal controls. An advert saying “runs well” can describe its last use rather than its present state. A flat battery, missing key or seized brake discovered at the last moment can alter loading. Send the current information with your enquiry, including any uncertainty, so the proposed collection reflects the vehicle that will actually be waiting on the day.

Garage transfers and workshop readiness

For a Netley garage transfer, ask the releasing workshop whether parts have been removed and whether the car can roll. A vehicle that arrived under its own power may leave with a fault identified or work partly completed. Tell us about loose components and discuss how the workshop will secure anything travelling with the car. Do not assume a box of parts can simply be placed in an unsecured cabin without agreement.

The receiving workshop should know the car is being delivered by transporter and understand its condition. Confirm its vehicle entrance and where unloading can take place. A key-drop arrangement alone does not prove that an undriveable car can be left safely after closing. Our dealer and auction collection information also explains release contacts and collection references where a trade seller or auction site is involved in the movement.

A non-runner needs an honest loading description

AtWheel considers non-runner transport, but “does not start” is only one part of the assessment. Tell us about wheel movement, steering, brakes, suspension damage and keys. State if the car is on a hard standing or a softer surface, and whether there is room around it. Avoid describing a vehicle as freely rolling unless that is known; an honest unknown can be discussed before any method is agreed.

Our guide to transporting a non-runner explains why those details matter. Do not disable a parking brake, force a selector or improvise a tow to make the description sound simpler. Different vehicles have different release and handling requirements. Provide the make, model, registration and relevant symptoms, and let the transport assessment determine what is appropriate for that particular vehicle and its position.

Low cars, covered spaces and van dimensions

A car in an underground or covered parking space may need more preparation than one on an open driveway. AtWheel can work with 2.1m clearance, subject to assessment of the complete route and loading area. We do not promise access below 2.1m. Tell us about the entrance sign, ramps, turns and any restriction close to the vehicle. A stated height alone cannot confirm that a suitable transport arrangement can be completed inside.

For a van, supply the body type, dimensions and loading condition. AtWheel can handle vans up to 3,500kg where the job is suitable. Equipment, conversions or a load can affect the assessment, so do not rely only on the model badge. For a low or older car, explain unusual clearance and any particular concern before collection. Our classic car transport page covers planning a movement for vehicles that need careful condition information and an organised handover.

What to prepare before the collection window

Remove personal belongings you do not want travelling with the vehicle and discuss anything that must remain. Have the keys, agreed documents and site reference ready for the authorised handover person. Record the vehicle's visible condition while you can safely inspect it, including pre-existing damage that should be understood at collection. Our car transport preparation guide provides a fuller checklist for owners and sellers.

Keep a reachable contact available during the agreed movement. If the seller becomes unavailable, the gate code changes or the receiving garage closes unexpectedly, tell AtWheel promptly. These are changes to the collection plan, not details to leave for the driver to discover. A revised arrangement may be possible, but it has to be checked alongside the vehicle, route and destination rather than treated as an automatic continuation of the original booking.

For a collection from an empty property, establish who can open the gate and attend the vehicle. A seller sending a photograph of keys does not create an authorised unattended handover. Discuss any proposed arrangement before booking and make sure somebody can answer questions about the car. Similarly, if you intend to travel separately to meet the delivery, allow for an agreed window and keep in contact; do not assume you can follow a transporter or arrive at exactly the same moment.

A repair appointment and a vehicle arrival are related but separate arrangements. Ask whether the workshop wants the car beforehand or only once its receiving area is ready. Put that instruction into the booking enquiry so collection can be considered around a realistic handover at the other end.

Call 07444 400271 or send the quote form with the collection and delivery details. For neighbouring locations, our Southampton vehicle transport and Hamble vehicle transport pages provide local handover considerations. If the vehicle has broken down unexpectedly and requires urgent assistance, use Netley recovery and explain the immediate situation. Planned transport works best when both ends are ready and the vehicle's real condition is understood before the journey begins.
